guys in the country.
Reese Winans on keys slash played some guitar and we found out that Thomas
Tall who is a part of the Steelers ownership has had this project going for a long time.
They're in the coffee house right now upstairs on the Point Park University stage in anticipation
of their opening slot for the Rolling Stones February or July 3rd rather at FedEx Field
but they're also going to be playing at Jurgles on June 12th and at the Willie Nelson Outlaw
Music Festival in Burgettstown on the 22nd of June.
Trey Nation on the vocals, Thomas Tall
playing guitar, Johnny Babb on guitar, Bennett Miller on the bass, Blaze Lanzette on drums,
Joe Monroe on keys who you probably have seen play a whole bunch around town.
Fellas welcome!
How's everybody doing up there?
Oops sorry how about now?
Are we doing okay now?
Hey guys how
you doing today?
All right hey Thomas I just want to say congratulations on being the first member
of Steelers ownership to get a slot in the coffee house upstairs because Art Rooney's been begging
me for years to get his folk trio up there and I just won't do it.
Well thank you very much it's
obviously an occasion I'm marking for that exact reason.
How long has Ghost Towns, the Ghost Towns
been in existence in one form or another?
Probably started in 2007 and then had to put it down for a
the demands of my company Legendary and then we had Twins Born and the Steelers but have loved
music and played since I was probably 13 and you know so decided to put this group together
and got this amazing group of musicians and so it's a lot of fun.
First of all what kind of
guitar are you playing today?
Well I'm usually playing a Gibson Les Paul but the first song
I'm playing a Fender Telecaster just because of the sound of it.
Okay nice and I imagine you have
a couple of guitars.
I do have a couple of guitars.
The opening slot for the Rolling Stones I know
that the Stones that's your band right?
That is the hallmark for you in terms of
rock and roll.
That is my favorite band of all time since the first time I heard them.
I think they are
the greatest rock and roll band ever if not the best band ever so beyond a privilege to be able to
do this.
So Ghost Towns like are they in the tradition of something that we might have heard
from the Stones or is this more of like a gut bucket blues a Texas rock and roll blues thing?
Give us an idea of what we're about to hear.
Well I think there's it's sort of an American
rock and roll band and I've heard people have described it as sort of they can hear Rolling
Stones influence some Black Crowes a little bit of country rock here and there but I think those
are the comparisons that I've heard from people that listen to us.
And now you're in a point where
you can play some gigs and you're going to do so locally June 12th at Jurgles which is just
Wednesday night you guys are going to be out there and then at the Willie Nelson Outlaw
Music Festival you're going right to some big stages.
Yeah well we've the band has worked
really hard and you know we're trying to be efficient so we're really looking forward to
the show here locally with Jurgles you know playing with Willie Nelson that's that's going to be
amazing and then obviously the July 3rd show with the Stones.
When you put this band together this
incarnation of the Ghost Towns and I know Mark Proctor is involved and Mark former manager for
the fabulous Thunderbirds and Stevie Ray and did you say like I want to assemble these guys and
then have somebody go out and fill the slots or did you already have an idea of who you wanted to
be in the band?
Really it was kind of searching around and trying to find not only amazing players
with good experience but guys that really liked each other and get along and are inspired by the
music so and and then on top of that the first time I ever heard Trey sing wow it it just blew
me away and that's sometimes we're up on stage or in a practice session and I'm standing next to
and listen to him sing I have to make sure I stay focused and and don't become become a fan up here
yeah don't fan out on stage.
Well we're looking forward to hearing what you guys got for us what's
the first song we're gonna hear?
It's called Till It's Gone and this is on our new album that comes
out this summer.
And we'll talk a little more about that album coming up because it's a it's a real
murderer's road that they got lined up uh instrumentation wise on that Ghost Towns record
here they are performing live Till It's Gone it's the Ghost Towns on DVE.
