Hi everybody, it's Corey at Gemini Guitar.
Today this is a Dream Pop lesson and we're
focusing on a melodic type of idea with some mainly add9 chords.
So let's check it out.
Okay, so first let's take a look at the chords.
The first one is an E minor add9, so the middle
is on the first string, first finger is on the fourth string, both at fret 2, we've got
the open third and second string.
[G] Next what we're going to do is a G6, this one's in the
third position, so second string fret 3, fourth fret string 3, fifth fret string 4.
[Am] Okay,
so as for A minor add9 we have 7th on 4th, 5th on 3rd, open [B] 2nd and 7th on string 1.
Now for C add9 in the 10th [G] position, so we have fret 8 string [Em] 2, 9th fret string 3, [C] 10th
fret string 4 and 10th fret on string 1.
Last but not least we have D add9, same thing as
C add9, just move that up a couple of frets.
[D]
[E] In bars 1 and 2 we're focusing on the E minor
add9 chord and the whole riff is made up of what's known as arpeggios, which are basically
the notes of a chord played separately as opposed to simultaneously.
So when we arpeggiate
we pick the notes one at a time.
[Em]
Basically what I'm doing here is alternate picking through
the arpeggio until I reach the first string.
So basically down, up, down, up.
And at that
point then I'm just going to play the open string, so I'm taking the middle off and playing
string 1, 2, [G] 3 and 2.
So the complete idea [Em] is
[G] Okay next we have bars 3 and 4.
We pick the triplet, we [Em] pick open 1st, [Bm] 2nd string, 3rd
string, 2nd [G] string, open 1st string.
So it's
Okay so in bars 5 and 6 we're working with A minor add9.
Okay so here what we're doing
is we're picking the triplet through to the [Am] 7th fret then on string 1, [B]
then it's open
[E] string 1, open 2nd, 5th [C] fret 3rd, [B] open 2nd.
So now we [Am] get this.
[D] [E] [C] Okay in 6th and 7th bar we're working with C add9.
So we pick through the triplet, 10th
fret then on string 1, back to open string 1, and then we just [Em] pick the 2nd string, the
3rd string, and [E] 10th fret again on string 1.
[C] So it's
And basically everything just repeats then, there's an alternate ending.
So what I do
there is I pick through one lot of the C add9 sequence, half of it I really should say because
the other half's cut off there, but same as the first half.
Then we move that idea up
to the [D] 10th position.
[Am]
Okay here's everything at slower speed.
[Em]

Okay so thus concludes today's lesson.

it.
