Rock and Roll has lost a legend with the death of former Dragon lead singer Mark Hunter.
[N] The New Zealand born star lost a battle with throat cancer at a New South Wales South Coast hospital last night.
_ _ When Mark passed away last night, he was very, very peaceful.

[F] _ _ Mark Hunter had [C] a gift and his gift was his voice [Bb] and he used it to bring joy to millions of fans around the world.
[Fm] So it was a [C] cruel irony that the disease which [Eb] finally took his life launched its [Ab] attack on his voice.
[Abm] _ Singing has been [N] my life and after a certain period of time, _ _ what you do [D] is what you become.
[E] In the 70s and 80s, New Zealand born Mark was [E] front man of Dragon, a classic Aussie pub band that produced hit [C] after hit. _ _

When [E] _ _ _ [A] _ the band broke up, Mark launched a [E] successful solo career.
[Dm] But last year, the Dragon boys had [Bb] just started recording together again when Mark found out he had [Bb] throat cancer. _
His Rock and [E] Roll mates immediately lent [B] a hand.
In Melbourne, Renee Geyer organised [E] a benefit concert where [B] Mark surprised the crowd by performing the last time he ever sang. _

_ [G] _ _ [A] Another concert called Good Vibrations took place in Sydney with some of the biggest names in rock and roll [C] giving their time to help raise [F] money for Mark [Bb] and his family.

[G] As well as surgery to remove the tumour, Mark [B] sought alternative treatment for his cancer, culminating in a trip to Italy last month for a controversial drug cocktail said to [Abm] cure cancer.
He returned [Ab] three weeks ago [Abm] in good health [B] and good spirits but in the last few days of his life, [Db] flipped into a coma.
He [A] was 44.
The [Dbm] last song Mark wrote [A] was called Be Alright [Dbm] and it sums up the message [A] he's left behind. _

[E] Much of the success driven by Mark's personality.
When Mark Hunter walked into a room, _ _ people stopped and stared because he just had that amazing charisma.
But there was a price to pay.
[Em] One that led to the band splitting, if only for [D] a while.
I mean, if there's no [Ab] food, there's no money.
There just seem to be drugs for days.
A brief solo career, _ Island Nights, a runaway winner, [Db] ended in 1984.
[Dbm] Dragon was back with right.
_ _ _ [B] They had great songwriters, great musicians [Gb] and in Mark, the [Eb] ultimate front man.
Dragon was a fans band and a [E] musicians band.
Guitarist Tommy Emmanuel was both.
When you go back and listen to the early records, they didn't sound like anyone else.
Late last year, Mark Hunter was diagnosed with throat cancer.
He [G] traveled the world searching for a cure, never despondent.
They were the luckiest people on earth.
At home, [B] his friends held benefit concerts and he sang for one last time. _ _
_ _ _ _ _ His wife [B] and three children were with him [F] when he died last night and he'll be buried privately this weekend.
But the week after next, there'll be a full scale public memorial [Gm] service for Mark Hunter, the man who was Dragon.

I mean, the man had so much charisma.
It was amazing.
[G] When Dragon [D] split, Hunter went solo, then turned [A] family man with wife, fashion [G] designer Wendy Heather and his three children.
