Dixie Hummingbirds - Carl Davis joins The Birds chords
Start Jamming...
While James Walker replaced himself, we have a fellow with us, Carl Davis.
And Walker had been working with him in New York.
I went over and sat and talked with them and I rehearsed with them two days.
After I rehearsed with them on the two days,
they sat there that night in rehearsal and gave me a sign which meant,
you are now a Hummingbird.
And I said to myself, Carl, this is it.
[G#] The other day when we were talking [B] about this.
This is one of the new songs?
[E] Yeah, yeah.
[F#m] What you could do [G#] is like when [G] I hit it,
[E] and I put you [F#] on to really [F#m] [E] just put your pressure on the beginning [G] of it.
You mean saying the [G#] top voice?
Yeah.
Oh, OK.
You know what I mean?
[C#m] Go down to the three.
[F] Just punch it right on there with me and [B] Howard when we start.
Go back.
Lay it right down on it.
[G#] OK, good.
That's right.
[G#m] [C]
[D#] [E] [B]
Well, let us praise [D#] the one who bled [G#m] and died.
Grown [B] upon the tree.
[G#] Don't you know it's a man.
Amazing thing.
What that.
[B] Grace.
And what that.
Love beyond.
[Em] And the [G#] Dixie Hummingbirds being a singer,
you have to be a full all around singer to be able to sing every part.
[Em] Not just sing it, but sing it well.
I had to change my tone quality quite a bit singing with them
because singing all the different voices
and developing the unique sound and style that they have.
[F#] Praise, praise the Lord.
Praise, praise the Lord.
Praise, praise the Lord.
Praise Him, praise [G#m] Him.
Praise the Lord.
[Em] Come on, praise Him.
[B] Praise, praise [E] the Lord.
Praise the Lord.
Praise, praise the Lord.
Praise, praise the Lord.
Praise, praise the Lord.
Praise, praise [F#] the Lord.
[E]
Praise, praise the Lord.
Praise, praise the Lord.
Praise, praise the Lord.
[C#m] Praise, [E] praise the Lord.
[C#m] [E] [C#m] [E] Praise, praise the Lord.
Praise, praise the Lord.
Praise, praise the Lord.
Praise, praise the Lord.
When I was sick, [C#m] He [E] healed me.
[C#m] When I was [E] on my sick bed, [C#m] He touched me and raised me up.
[B] You know what [G#m] He told me?
[B] He said, Paul, run on.
[E] Let me show you just how to do it.
I picked you up, [C#m] turned [E] you around, and I got to do it.
Hold on, [C#m] [E] hold on.
[C#m] [E] Sing, Paul.
Well, I've been to [A] the water.
[E] [F#] I've been there.
My soul is like an empty [A] well.
[E] I've been there to be satisfied.
Well, if you don't, you don't believe me.
[B] And all that power in me comes down [E] by Jordan's stream.
Look at me, I've [B]
stepped in the water.
The water got so cold.
[E] God, it killed the [C#m] feel of my body.
[E] I know that it hurt my soul.
That's why I praise [C#m] Him.
Praise, praise, [E] praise the Lord.
Praise, [F#] praise, praise the Lord.
Praise, [C#] praise, [E] praise the Lord.
Praise, praise, praise the Lord.
I've been told by the [F#] group several times that [C#m] they would like for [B] me to continue with the group when they retire.
I would like to do that, but it's not going to be easy because you're going to have to find singers who are really experienced.
Singers with good voices.
Singers with a lifestyle, with a good family background, church background.
It's going to take all of that.
And you've got to go out today and handpick those kind of singers.
It's going to take time.
But I'm very observant in every city and state and town we go into.
I listen to a lot of the great singers.
Hoping that when that time comes, I'll find great singers to continue carrying on the name of the [N] Dixie Hummingbirds.
