[Em] [B]
[G] [E]
I [B] definitely have to create some kind of a layer to protect [E] myself.
It doesn't matter how honest you are, there are things that you [Em] can't fucking share with the public.
You're basically like a bus stop ad.
It's cool that a lot of people see this ad, a lot of people see this face.
[E] Some people will think, well that's cool, maybe I'll check it out.
But it also means people can spit on it, people can fucking shit on it, people can fucking
tear [B] it apart, draw a dick on your forehead.
To present a big part of yourself that you bled [Em] out, you have to enclose it with some
kind of protection.
[E] That's the separation [B] from your personal life to what you share with the public.
[E] It's like putting a glass case over this piece of work.
They can see it, but they can't touch it, they can't touch me.
I think this past record I just finished is very different than any record I've made before.
It's kind of like a consolidation of the past work and where I am now.
I saw it as part one and part two, like a movie.
For me, the record is like the movie, and then the sound is the leading man.
He's like the face, the look, the soul of the film.
It's kind of like casting.
Once that's done, then you start writing these tracks, and then that's kind of like storyboards.
Then I [A] edit them into a sequence, like a movie.
That's the [Bb] record.
But then for this [Eb] last one that I just finished, [E] I didn't really [Gm] think about it at all.
This is the only record where I feel like I don't understand what I just made.
I think it's just kind of shocking that when [E] I shaved my head, I was shocked that the rockabilly
dude was not real.
[Bb] It was kind of like [E] my [Em] attempt to reach out to my dad [B] just to make an album [Dm] just for him.
[E] So I tried [Dm] very hard to look like him [Em] and dress like him.
He didn't say shit.
And then [Am] later on, my mom told me [Dm] he cried when he listened to it.
But it made [B] me really pissed off because he didn't say anything.
[Am] Every time he talks to me, he's just [E] like, you doing okay?
You [Bb] didn't fuck up or anything?
Like need money?
He's like, [Em] no, I'm doing good.
He's like, [B] okay, good.
Just checking up on you.
But he never told me.
I was like, did you listen to the record?
He's like, [Am] yeah.
I was like, what do you think?
[B] He's like, I'll tell you next time.
