People come up and go like I love your dad, you know, and I'll be like me too
[F]
[G] [E] [A] All right, my friends.
It is time now [G] to talk about the sixth [A] annual Almond family
[G] Revival tour [Gm] six dude.
Congratulations, by the way.
Thank you so much
Did you always envision [C] this to be an annual thing or was the goal just literally if we could just get one night out of
This it's like a pat on the back when my father passed away
[C] It was I mean [G] I lost my mom four [G] months before my dad
So it was just it [Gm] was just like an awful time and and I couldn't concentrate [C] on touring and you know
We [G] wanted to rally around family and just you know
Kind of be off-radar when I kind of came out of that that six months or so
I realized that I kind of was denying myself
The power of music to heal I called some friends to kind of celebrate dad's life with me and it was wild
I invited a lot of people and they all said yes, we got the Fillmore, San Francisco
The only night they had was my dad's birthday, which was incredible the the night that would have been his 70th [A#] birthday
I was like, oh wow
[G] This is just like everything's aligning last year
[Bm] It was the [A] first coast to coast [E] tour and my thoughts were like if [A] we're gonna do all [A#] this work to do [E] this show
[D] It's easy to just [E] you know, throw it on a truck and some buses and just go on to the next town
It [A#] was never [E] supposed to be an annual thing.
It was never supposed to be a thing and I think somehow that's how
Some of our best stuff comes to be like it's not premeditated
It's [G] not a sitting around a you know at a board meeting saying how can we you know, [D] it just happened [A]
18 cities
You guys are gonna be [B] taking this to now.
It's [G] a sixth annual look at [Am] that
Who [E] doesn't need a tie-dye shirt in their life, right?
That's a nice [Em] tie-dye
It is a [D] nice one.
But [Am] listen, this is celebrating the life and music of your [E] dad Greg Allman
All right, it's [A] easy to say celebrating the music [E] cuz like we all know the music it's running in our [Em] blood, right?
[A#] Let's talk about the life
Tell us about the life of your dad and [A] the life that [E] you led with your dad behind
[B] Closed doors [Em] and what that celebration means [B] to you
Like what [E] memory comes to mind when you're like, let's let's cheers to that
You know instead of going to my senior year of high school
I went on tour with the Allman brothers and
It was really kind of a moment in my life where I was like, you know
It's kind of torn between music and and and theater
I was really [Em] into acting and into [A] the theater and I I went specifically on tour with dad [B] to to make [C] a decision
[D] I was like at the end of this [E] tour.
I'm gonna decide between music or [A] or theater and
[E] You know seeing firsthand
[B]
[D] You know what they did day to [G] day and and how they ran their shows [A] and you know the level of musicianship and
Just everything, you know [E] the business aspect behind the scenes [B] the the production [D] aspects
like [E] I really I really fell in love with that road life and
And putting on a show for people, you know
allowing people [A] to
[E] To forget their worries [D#m] for a couple hours every night and [D] it was just an instant [F#] love affair
And I knew when I got done with that tour that you know, I wanted to [A] I wanted to go on tour
[E] I want to make albums, [F#] you know, there's definitely some celebrating of [D] some father-son [A] stuff, you know, he would take me out on tour
He would he would have me as the opening act sometimes [F#m] and we'd get to perform together
[A] It's bittersweet to [F#] go up there and do something like Melissa one night and half of me [A] is really really proud
to to do that and carry it forward and the other half of [E] me is like
Damn it.
I just wish he was here doing this instead of me
It's a really great time [E] and and and all the people that are involved on the tour
Are folks that that either [Dm] knew him or were an opening act for him?
[Am] Or maybe they were just insanely influenced inspired by him or the Allman [F#] brothers.
That's the [A] common thread
[A] Between all the artists that are involved.
[D] We've got G love coming out a little bit North Mississippi all [G#]-stars or some of the guys from the band
[Dm] Dwayne Betts, I mean [E] these are [D] some cool people right and [C] you mentioned that you [A] just phoned a friend and no one said no
[E] We're all friends, [F#] you know this group of musicians
There's [A] also Donovan Frankenreiter and Maggie Rose and Larry [E] McCray blues legend Jimmy Hall from Wet Willie
[A] You know in his 70s out on tour with Jeff Beck [B] one of the best living [C] singers
[E] Killing it.
He's on the [A] entire tour
You know, [A] we've we've got some [E] really great talent and it's [A] it's just this chance once [E] a year
You [A] got to remember all these artists are touring worldwide all year
So [E] this is the one time we get to actually come [D] together [E] and it's it's a traveling circus.
It's like 25 people I
Blueprinted this after the last [A] waltz the bands the last waltz
Imagine if the last waltz would have just like [E] done that and then gotten on the bus [Em] and went and did it it's [A] you know
You know, that's what this [B] is.
There's really nothing quite like [E] it your dad
famously known [Am] for writing two [E] of
The Allman Brothers most famous favorite [A] songs Melissa and [E] whipping post whipping post will take you two [Am] days to listen to sometimes
What [A] is your favorite what is your [B] favorite Allman Brothers song?
Oh man, I mean [G] my favorite is [E] dreams
It's always been dreams.
It's just such a [Em] beautiful
different
Composition
There's so much room to explore the lyrics are way [D] ahead of its time, you know
I [E] think he was 21 or 2 [E] when he when he composed it
It's both delicate [B] and savage at the same time
I almost think that dreams is like if you [Am] had to pick the one song
[E] where every element of that band is captured in one song the the blues the jazz the power the
It's kind of like it's the one back in
2017 when when this first [D] event took place on your dad's 70th birthday in San Francisco [A] at the Fillmore
Let's talk about the Fillmore, right?
[E] What is it like for [Em] someone who's never been there like take us through?
Walking in the sounds [B] the smell the vibe of the Fillmore [D] when you're just [C#m] loading in and it's just [A] you guys getting [B] ready
[E] It's [A] wild man
I mean, [B] you know and [F#] what's really poetic is this year the final night of the [D] tour is at the Fillmore in San [G] Francisco
[Em] And and in so many times it's been the only night or the first [A] night
So [E] it's really cool
One of those venues where you just feel like you're home when you're there and and there's so [E] much history there
I mean from Zappa [A] and like I think you too and like it just you know an insane amount [Em] of
Talent in that room.
Well, the [Dm] family revival tour is celebrating the life and the music [A] of Greg Allman your dad
What [D] is it like to get to call Greg Allman [B] your dad?
Yeah, it's funny
You know because people come [E] up and go I [F#m] love your [A] dad, you [E] know, and I'll be like Me [A] too
You know on the one [F#] hand it's it's so amazing like all of the the you know
The gifts that he gave to the world
It's mind-blowing when you really [D] think about the reach [E] of that music and and how it's really been
[F#] The soundtrack to people's [A] good times and the medicine for [Am] people's bad times and you see it
When I'm when I meet the [D] fans and stuff, you know on the other hand [Am] like, you know, he's my dad
Like he's just like any other dad, you know
We [D] make fart jokes and like hang [A] out and watch football like like [Am] he's just my old man, you know
And so when we were in that mode like I never thought about like [A] my dad's an icon like and I know that he was
[F#] But yeah, it's it's [A] it's a it's a balance there
[E] I think he's looking [F#] down and I think he's [A] proud that there's
[E] You know so much jamming going on at the end of the year and his honor and we love him and we miss him
We miss his voice and his laugh and and his presence the sixth annual Allman family revival tour
18 cities tickets are available.
Everyone needs to come out and support you
[Bm] [Em] Support the jam and celebrate right?
[E] It's it's a blast
Like I said, we call it the [E] jam of the year and that's not like a flex.
It's a jam man
I mean, there's 25 musicians on that stage at the end of the night [Em] doing midnight rider
There's a 40 foot by 20 foot video wall with really cool curated imagery for each artist
It's just a blast Allman family revival
