Delta Blues - Slide guitar lesson-Part 2-The Old School-Muddy Waters chords
Start Jamming...
[G] How do you do?
[C] [G]
[D] [C]
[A] So [D] [Dm]
[F] we're starting with a slide into that [A] D7 position chord, [C#] which is a
G chord at the 7th and 6th fret, 2nd and 3rd string.
[Dm] [G] [Cm] Double the bass and [G#] then we take a barred chord, a C chord.
I only barred the first
top strings and [D] the first string, that's enough.
And [C] now you see why I use the slide on the 3rd
finger, because I need my pinky.
Without it, it's going to be [G] very awkward to play this.
So what do we do with the pinky?
It is the [A] 8th, 7th [G] fret on the first string.
So I'll do that.
The bass.
[A]
[B] So we do that for one measure, so I'll play that again.
[Dm] [C]
[F] Doubling the bass again to go into the fill-in,
[G] which starts at the 3rd string on the 12th fret.
So it's 12 down, open, [D] 3rd and 5th string pinched together on the 3rd fret, [G] open,
and 3rd and open again.
And then we move quickly to the 1st string, the 5th fret.
So it's
And then a triplet, 5, open, 5 and 3.
Doubling the bass again to move into the C7 chord again.
So it's
[C] [A]
So after those two measures of C again, which is for the second line in the verse,
we do a fill-in again.
And I doubled the bass, but on the 4th string, just as a variation.
And the fill-in starts with a slide at the 15th fret, 1st string.
[G] So it's 15, 12 on the 2nd string.
Doubling the bass and a [Dm] pinch of 3rd and 5th string together.
[G]
Then to the 5th fret for the second measure of the fill-in.
I'll play that again completely.
[A] [G]
[D] [G] And then we double the bass again.
[D#] [A] Slide on the top string [D] to go into the
D7 chord at the 7th fret.
It's the same position as on the 15th fret.
[Dm]
[D] [G]
Again doubling the bass and sliding into the C [C] chord.
[G]
Doubling the bass and [F] then we do a turnaround.
[Em] [Fm] That's on the 3rd fret twice and after the first [A] 3rd fret
3rd fret on the 4th string,
we add the open strings very quickly.
[Em] We'll let it rest for an 8th beat and [D] then
[G] So the turnaround again is
[G] [D]
Okay, and in the song I'd also do another fill-in,
which might come in handy.
And it starts at the 9th fret and we're brushing up.
[A]
So it's
[F] We're brushing the first [C#] two strings.
[A] And we damp it with the right hand and then
[C#] 12 on the 1st string, [G]
the 2nd string and we slide [A] down on the 3rd string.
