It's frequently happened, you know, that groups who've made it big in Britain and then come on to be successful in the States,
but Deep Purple are doing things the other way round, it seems.
Ron, go ahead.
Tell us how this came about, will you?
Well, it's the second one we formed.
[F] A [C] deal came through, you know, for [Db] an American company.
Everyone learned English.
We'd be like a rock band or something like that, you know.
[Eb] We put some numbers in the camp, and sent them down on the seat.
And we sent them over to the representatives of the American company.
[G] And it's a tradition.
And it went on from there.
We just released records over there.
[Fm] And they've all done very, very well.
What's the story?
I know one of your hits has been River Deep Mountain High.
[Eb] What is the latest [N] one out?
Is it a very long version of that?
Yeah, about [D] ten minutes, five seconds, on the latest copy of the book of Jameson.
[Eb] And there was a lot [D] of interest from [Eb] DJs in America for this one track.
And obviously ten minutes, five seconds is too long anyway.
So they just cut the intro out.
And the solo in the middle eight.
And the outro.
[D] And everything.
[Gb] And it's doing very well.
It's [G] doing very well, yeah.
Is it going to be released here, do you know?
[Eb] No, no.
We didn't really want to release it here.
We'd rather release one of our own numbers.
All right, fine.
Well, as we haven't got a current single here in Britain for you,
let's pick one of the numbers you have released in America.
I see you do Hey Joe.
Is that new now, then?
It's been out on an LP, Shady Deeper.
This is the first LP that was out.
This is one of the tracks [N] on the LP.
Good, let's hear it.
