You retired from music and then you went and would you, there's a space where I've got your final and now you're coming out with CD's, but would you give everybody kind of a brief, a brief maybe a minute or two history of what's been going on since about the early 80s?
Has everybody got their notebooks out?
I stopped playing for 22 years.
Wow.
It was dumb.
It [D#] was dumb.
[N] I got burnt out and I couldn't think, I couldn't imagine I'd ever be burnt out.
So I figured I wasn't a musician anymore and I didn't want to be one of these guys who drags himself onto the stage and does an imitation of what he used to do because he doesn't know how else to make a living.
So I decided to find another way to lead my life and I did.
[C] And eventually I discovered that I actually was still a musician.
[N] I started playing a little more recently and last CD I did was nominated for a [A#] Grammy.
[Gm] And I, [N] who'd have thunk it?
It was the easiest one I ever did in my life.
So you just don't know what's going to happen.
But your, [E] I was fascinated by the fact that you [N] build.
Well, what happened was I, the thing I was living in California and the most interesting place to me at the time was a violin shop.
So I went to violin making school.
The thing that always interested me most was being able to look at a violin and know when and where it was made and maybe by whom.
So that's what I studied.
And these days people bring me instruments, violins, violas, cellos, bows.
And when I can, which is fairly frequently, I identify them and I do appraisals and things like that.
I'm actually, this is really weird to be saying, I'm regarded as the world's expert on violins that were made in the United States.
That's because nobody else ever paid any attention.
But yeah.
There's a lot of great players.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have David Blomberg down here in the studio.
And he is going to be playing an overdue show here at Fort David's Pub there on South Lamar this evening.
And he's come down here nice enough to play a few tunes, come talk to us, tell us about himself.
So this is, it's been eons since he's played out, so welcome back again.
Thank you.
And you want to introduce your gang or you want to go into another tune?
I'll play another tune for you.
What are you going to do for us?
We'll find out when it starts.
[E] [Em]
Okay.
[Bm]
I'm [A] sorry.
I bent the strings out.
[E] [A] [B]
[E] [A] [C]
[A#] I think I [E] got them now.
It brings a [A] tear, [E]
a tear to [A] my eye.
[E]
[C#] Oh, [D] when I began, [A#m] [D]
yeah, to [D#] realize.
[F#]
[D#]
[A] But you know,
[C#]
[F#] [C#]
[F#] I didn't get enough sleep [B] last night.
I'm about to drown in my [E] own tears.
[Em] [A#m]
[E] Well, I'd sit and I'd [A] cry [N] just [E] like a baby [A] child.
[E]
[C#] Oh, my [D] pouring tears.
Yeah.
[G#m] We're running [D#m] wild.
[F#] [D#]
[D] Girl, [A] if you don't think,
[C#] if you don't think you're going to [F#m] come home soon, [A] it's all [D] right.
[D#] I'll just [A] have to drown, [F#]
[F#m] drown [E] in my own [A] [Em] tears.
[D]
[A] Look here.
[B] I know [C#] that [Dm] it's true.
[A] [F#] Uh-huh.
[D] Into [D#] every life, [F#]
every life.
[A] A little bit of rain, [E] a little bit of rain will surely [A] have to fall.
[E] [C#]
Yeah, [Em] but girl, I'm [F#] so blue.
[Dm] [D] Yeah.
Since [D#] you've been gone, [A] [C]
I [B] feel like it's raining more and more and more [E] and more.
[A] Why don't you, why [E] don't you bring it on back [A] home?
[E]
[C#] [A] Girl, don't [D] leave me to suffer [D#] all [F#] alone.
[B] But if [A] you don't think, [C#]
if you don't think you're going to come [F#] home soon, [A] it's [D] all right.
[D#] I'll [D#m] just [A] have to drown in my own tears.
Drown in my [D] own tears.
Yeah, I think [A] I'm going to drown in my [D] own tears.
[A] Drown in my
[D] own tears.
What can a man do but just to drown in [A] my own tears?
Drown in my [D] own tears.
Woman, you're pouring water on a [A] drowning man.
Drown in my own tears.
[D] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, [A] yeah.
I'm [D] going down for the third time, you [D#] know.
I'm [A] about to [F#]
[F#m] [A#]
[D] drown.
[C#]
Go [C] down.
[B]
[A#] God help me, I'm about [E] to drown in my own [A]
tears.
[D#]
[F#m] [C#] [Bm]
[N]
I'm going to make an educated guess and say this is the Angel.
This is Angel Band, yeah.
