We have so many great people who are stopping by,
but rarely do we get a husband and wife team up in here
that are just as funny and crazy and talented
as David and Tamela man.
Y'all are amazing.
What's going on people?
What's up?
They've been here chiming in off of the house talk.
That's a mess.
Y'all done hurt me.
I need somebody to pray for me
because I'm about to baptize them.
In Jesus name.
In the name of Jesus.
I'm tying my bow tie.
I told mama just get a tub and baptize them every day
for the rest of their life.
Oh my God, that's so nasty.
Y'all got it deep up in here.
What?
I'm telling you we do that during the house talk portion.
I wish earthquake was here.
Earthquake is out on vacation right now.
We miss you guy.
We miss you dude.
Earthquake would have had it even crazier.
Earthquake would have had it.
Yes.
Some of the words he would have used would have been different.
I'm glad we came on.
Yes, yes.
We would have gone over to the next level.
All right, so what brings you all to town?
I know you guys have the gospel explosion happening.
Yes.
Yes.
I'm excited about it.
Tasha Cobbs, myself, and also Mayor Mary.
Yes.
David is gonna be hosting.
And I'm hosting.
Okay.
So wear your good clothes y'all.
Don't let them talk about you.
Ain't no telling what's gonna go on. Excuse me.
I come out in the audience.
Oh really?
I wanna see who's out there.
And you start pulling them out.
What's this you wearing?
Wear your best hair.
Wear your best hair.
Because you know anytime you go somewhere
you gonna see a bunch of hair.
Sisters have the hair.
Ease up on the hair.
Hey, y'all have it.
We got hair to match the shoes.
That's right.
And what I see.
And if there's somebody that come with a little too much,
I'm gonna let you know.
Oh my goodness.
Come for some great singing.
You know you got Mayor Mary, of course,
and Tasha Cobbs, Break Every Chain,
Tamela Man, Taking Him to the King,
Shackles and all that with Mayor Mary.
Okay.
We're going down.
We're going down.
It's gonna be a great night.
It's gonna be a great night.
That's happening Friday, right?
This Friday, 7.30.
J-PAC.
And J-PAC.
And J-PAC.
All right, so before we do all that,
let's back it up a little bit.
We wanna talk about.
Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep.
We're on rewind.
I like the sound effects.
All right, I wanna talk about how you guys got together.
How we saw that you grew from the whole
Kirk Franklin and the family thing,
the Natala Perry thing.
How did this all transpire?
Because I don't get that much off of the internet.
I need the real deal.
The real how we got together?
Yes, how did you guys meet?
I'm gonna give you,
now it depend on which one of us you ask.
Okay.
Both of y'all are here.
My best friend.
My best friend went to school and had a chorus class
with David Kirk Franklin and Darrell Blair,
which is our pastor now.
Wow.
And so, long story, she came and so,
she wanted her to sing for us.
We did our thing, but she blew us away.
So fast forward, we had just been friends a couple years.
And so, one day we're sitting up and,
you know, we just homeboy, homegirl, no stuff.
I kissed her, blew her mind.
She fell in love, we married.
27 years later, long story short.
Oh!
That's how it goes, man.
That's the Cliff Notes edition.
That's a little bit.
I kissed her, blew her mind.
And 27 years later, I turned out, she turned me out,
we both turned out from the inside out.
I love it.
27 years.
Here we are.
And here y'all are, still smiling.
And kicking it.
How do you work together?
Because, listen, I've been married going on four years.
It'll be four years in October, baby.
You just learning.
But it's something I pray for.
It's something that I wanted in my marriage.
Yes, that I wouldn't have to explain what I'm doing,
where I'm going and all that.
So it really works for me and David.
But the thing is, it can be done.
You know, we separate work and home.
And we like each other.
It's a difference, you know, you just really like.
You like your husband, your spouse or whatever,
but then don't you just get annoyed sometimes?
Like, babe, come on.
I do, I say babe, but it's like I can separate.
I can't because he's cutting up so bad.
You can't stay mad at me.
I'll do something, she get mad at me.
I walk by, do something, all of that's ruined.
I start laughing.
So now you gotta laugh.
And you mad because you laughing.
Now you mad again and you don't know why you mad
because you laughing.
Yes, but we have such a good time together.
I mean, so it's like everything we have,
we build it together.
So we on a roll.
You guys just exploded on the scene.
It seemed like, go ahead with the sound effects.
Can I get the rewind?
Can I get the rewind?
Just call me if y'all need special effects.
You got another one for me, just anything?
I don't know.
Now he's fresh out of him.
All right, so, all right, you guys,
you said you knew Kirk from way back, right?
And you got in with the family.
I actually saw the We Worship You video recently again.
I'm like, oh my God.
I didn't even know y'all were, I was like what?
I mean, you knew it, but then you hear the voice
and you're like, way back, girl, way back.
But then you hear it and you're like, that's really them.
That's really you, it's amazing.
It is amazing.
So how did you connect with Tyler Perry then?
Well, after we quit.
After Kirk Franklin and the family broke up.
After we broke up?
Why'd y'all break up?
Why'd y'all leave?
It was just that season was done.
It was done and I mean, he decided
to do some different things and I was crushed though.
I thought my world, I thought it was the end of my world,
especially in singing.
Why?
Because, you know, it was like, I love doing
what I was doing, backgrounding with him
and traveling and all that.
It's like, I knew what my purpose was.
So at the end, the reason I'm saying all this
is a lot of times we think change is bad,
but that was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.
So at this point, there's a up and coming writer
that's writing plays and doing all this named Tyler Perry.
I went down to audition for Tyler Perry
and I told him, I said, look, my wife and I,
we do things together as a package.
She sings, but she don't act.
And so we both came and we did the first show.
Tyler Perry.
The very first one?
I Can Do Bad Out By Myself.
Bad Out By Myself.
Nice.
So y'all were there ground level, ground floor.
Madea was created.
That is amazing.
Everybody don't even know,
Madea wasn't even the star of the first show.
Well, who was the star?
Well, it was a star that didn't,
it was somebody that didn't show up.
Something happened.
But it meant to be.
It was meant to be, right.
It was meant to be.
And I mean, it didn't matter.
It was good that they didn't show up.
Yeah, I'm glad they didn't.
Because the character Madea, Mr.
Brown and Cora,
we all, that's when we came to life.
I mean, so it's like, and it just started revolving after that.
It's like our worlds changed after that.
That is amazing.
It was truly a trip.
And the cool thing about it is that as he continued to grow,
you guys still were in those plays and everything.
Then leading on to TV and movies.
First we started doing the movies.
And then the movie was so popular
when we did the Meet the Browns.
And then so we said,
well, let's do a television show off of it.
Never could have imagined 140 episodes later.
That is amazing.
Now we're doing our own show.
It's a man's world.
Our new reality show on BET.
And also Men and Wives.
It's on Bounce TV.
I was like, okay, wait a minute.
How are they doing both of the shows?
So y'all have two shows on two different networks.
Talk about powerful and the reach.
We're working Tamela's record, music.
So we're just trying to get in where we fit in.
We're doing marriage book.
You look like you fitting in wherever you are.
Oh, wait, wait, back up.
Can we rewind?
Marriage book?
Yes.
We're trying to get it out.
I mean, we've been talking about it for a while.
We, you know, we got all our little layouts
and introduction stuff going.
So, I mean, we're there.
So just keep following us at David and Tamela.
And we figure we have a lot to share
after 27 years of marriage.
We just want to share our stories
and how we keep it together.
No separations.
For 27 years.
All right, cool.
We love it.
No separations?
None.
Yeah, that's amazing.
David and Tamela, man.
People, put your hands together.
Make [G] some noise for them.
Make sure you check them out.
