Hey everybody, it's Nick from Basic Gear Review, and today we're comparing the
Darkglass Microtubes 900 and 500 to the B7K and the Vintage Ultras.
The B7K
delivers an aggressive modern sound, while the Vintage brings up the mids for
a warmer, more neutral characteristic.
Both amps feature each microtube's
voicing.
All of these units, for the most part, have the same set of features.
A
four-band EQ, selectable frequencies, blendable distortion, and a balanced
direct out.
One thing to note, the M900, B7K, and Vintage have three selectable
frequencies for each mid-band, whereas the M500 only has two.
First, let's hear
the direct signal of each with no distortion.

Next up, let's hear each of these units through some speakers.
The
Microtubes 900 and 500 are plugged directly into a Fender Rumble 410, where
the B7K and Vintage Ultras are first running through the Aguilar Tonehammer 500.

Now we're going to run each preamp into the all-tube power section of the Ampeg
SVT.
The Microtubes 900 features a preamp out and a power amp in on the
rear panel, where the Microtubes 500 features an effects loop.
In order to
keep the gain at unity, the 500's gain knob must be kept to a minimum.
