Start Jamming...
[D] It was [G#m] a long time ago in [C#m] McConnell, far [D] far away.
[G] And we were passing around [G#m] that book, This Wheel's on Fire.
We were [D] passing that book around a lot.
And that first chapter of that book [G]
[G#] talked about [G#m] somebody in the band, the band, not a band.
[C] [D] Not [C#m] a band.
The [F#] band.
[D] And [A] Lee Ma was recounting a story [D] about how they [Cm] said that if one of the members of the band [Dm] died,
[D] then it was kind of a joke between them that they would put [G#] that person on ice and put them underneath the bus
and bring them home to [D] bury them.
[G] And this is [N] guys that had, you know, they'd siphoned [D#] gas out of the cars in the [A] parking lot
while the rest of the band was playing so they could get [G#] to the next town.
[D] [E] They come from much more humble [D] beginnings than me, that's for damn sure.
[E] Although we probably [A] smelled just as bad as [D] they did.
But [E] after I read that chapter of that book, it immediately cut from that [N] moment,
from them having that joke in the band, to Richard, [A#] to Lee von Fein and Richard in the [F#] hotel room.
And behind [G#] himself was all the grand [D] larignée everywhere.
So that, for some reason, [Am] [Em] that hit me really [G#] really hard.
[D] I was about 22, 23 years old and that just [A#] knocked [D] me on my ass.
[G#] And I thought about that [A#] time [A] passing for them between [E] that joke that they all had
when they were all riding around together and young and having fun, [G] and then [D] Richard.
So I wrote this song for those folks.
[F#m] [Bm]
[F#m] [D]
Let [F#m] [D]
[F#m] [D]
[F#m] [D] [F#m]
[D]
[F#m] [D] [F#m]
[D] the night air cool you off
[F#m]
[D] Tilt your head back and try [F#m] to cough
[E] Don't say nothing about [Bm] the things you never saw
[D] Let the night air cool [F#m] you off
[D] I ain't living like [F#m] I should
A [D] little rest might do [F#m] me good
[E] Got to [F#] sinking in [Bm] a place where I want stuff
[D] Now I ain't living like [F#m] I should
[E] Can you hear that [A] singing?
Sounds like gold
Baby, [E] I only had [A] it in my [F#m]
head
[E] Fifteen years ago, [A] baby, all that gold
Now [B] it's rolling over us [D] instead
Richard Emanuel [F#m] is dead
And [D]
[F#m]
[D] God forbid you call [F#m] him bluff
[D] Like the nightmares I've had [F#m] enough
[E] Remember when they used [Bm] to say that we were tough?
[D] Now, God forbid [A] you call [F#m] him bluff
[D] First they named you after [F#m] me
The [D] only pirates [F#m] on the sea
They [B] [E] say Daniel might [Bm] have been real proud of me
He [D] said, the man [F#m] I want to be
[E] Can you hear that [A] singing?
Sounds like gold
Baby, [E] I'll make it bigger over [D] the sea
[F#m]
[E] Fifteen years ago, [F#m] baby, all that gold
Now [B] it all comes out somewhere else [D] to me
[G] Something else you [D] can't believe
[F#m]
[D]
[F#m]
[D]
[F#m]
[D]
[F#m]
[D]
[F#m]
Can [E] you hear that singing?
[A] Sounds like [F#m]
gold
[E] Baby, I'm here for you from [F#m] the grave
[E] Singing where to be, [A] where to [F#m] go
When you [B] find another home you have to [D] leave
Something [G] else you [F#m] can't believe
[D]
Something else you [F#m] can't believe
[D] [F#m] [D]
[F#m]
[D]
[F#m]
