Howdy, y'all.
In my humble opinion, [D] there aren't many out there that can do honky-tonk
music as good as Dale Watson.
He's one of the very best.
But Dale is also a great songwriting
talent.
This includes love songs, just like this one, Daughter's Wedding Song.
The Daughter's Wedding Song is what I call it because today I'm giving my daughter away.
It's [G] too long of a title, isn't it?
[A] It's the one [D] song that I actually sat down to write.
I write mostly on stage, but this wasn't.
I do a lot of weddings, often asked to [Bm] do
a father-daughter dance song.
[G] I've been [A] using Merle [D] Haggard's Farmer's Daughter, but the
problem with that [Em] song as far as doing it father-daughter dance is the [A] mother gets killed
in it or is dead.
[Em] So it's not exactly, it doesn't quite fit for a father-daughter [F#m] dance.
So [Em] [D] I decided to write my own.
And [A] I wrote it [Bm] for this wedding.
And when I was writing
[G] it, it's an [A] emotional song for me because I've got [D] two daughters.
And I obviously put
myself in that whole thing.
I think it's effective for a father-daughter dance.
[Bm] My daughters haven't [G] gotten married yet, and [A] they're too young.
[D] One's 14, one's 20, and
about to be anyway.
And you're too young to get married.

Today I'm giving [Dm]
my daughter away.
[G] It's her time to make a new [C] start.
Today I'm giving my [F] daughter [Dm] away, [G] with her hand the key to [Dm] my [C] heart.
I've seen her stumble, [Dm]
and I've seen her fall, [G] and I wipe the tears from her [C] eyes.
I stood behind her, [Dm] I knew it all, [G] and my heart swells [C] up with pride.
Today I'm giving [Dm] my daughter away.

You know it's hard to let [C] go of [E] that little girl, [Dm] whose [G] whole body used to sleep [C] on my chest.
That lady's my baby, [F]
and I hope he [Dm] knows, [G] she deserves only the [C] best.
