The Villa Rosa, too close for comfort.
Man, thank you.
You know, one of the things that our quartet prides ourselves on is that we really are children.
We joined as kids and have sort of grown up in barbershops and we're very interested in
just kind of flows through our veins.
A lot of you know that I'm [G] a musician.
[Gb] I have a PhD in [D] music.
Thank you so much.
[F] That was Tim Warrick back there, [N] right?
So anyway, the quartet is African American origins of barbershop music.
[D] And so it introduced me to a lot of incredible recording.
We [Gb] [F] played a bunch of stuff for these guys who also fell in love with it.
So we [Em] just kind of heard a few things from this great group, my favorite of [N] all of them,
called the Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet.
And they started actually in the 30s as a true barbershop quartet in a [G] barbershop, as
a matter of fact.
And then just kind of, you know, went off into a [A] true music stage and became extremely
[G] popular radio singers and sort of
[C] precursors to the Mills Brothers.
And they just did wonderful, wonderful music.
And so on the way back from [Eb] after a show on the way to the airport one day, we [N] decided
we were going to learn one of their songs just like right off the recording.
So we drove in the car on the way to the airport and learned this song by rote off their recording.
So we're going to try to sing this song for you right now as close as we can to exactly
the way the Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet sang it.
