[E] Hi, today I want to talk about a kind of exotic song, not too hard to play, but in a very
strange tuning, [D] a demodal tuning, [Bm] where, and Steve Stills uses this in a lot of his songs,
Sweet Judy Blue Eyes, Carry On, Love the One You're With, a whole bunch of others, [Dm] I think.
Anyway, all the strings are tuned to either [N] D or A.
Sometimes they'd be a half step high,
sometimes they'd be a whole step high, sometimes a capo, it was always a little bit random,
[D] but the relationship was always the same, only two notes, D's and A's.
And anyway,
this one is of course 4 and 20, which falls into a pattern, a normal finger picking pattern,
[G] [D] and just a few chords working down the neck.
He uses the [G] same chords in a lot of songs.
[D] [E] [D]
They're just little chords that have thirds up on the top in the key of D.
So [A#] I'm putting a
lesson up at Totally Guitars on this particular [D] song on 4 and 20, so if you'd like to check that
out, come on over and visit us.
And you can put in requests for other songs, if you want to hear
more Stills songs, I'll get to them.
[N] Some of them are a little complicated, or there's a lot to them,
especially things like Sweet Judy Blue Eyes, but I would like to address some of the neat songs you
can do in this demodal tuning and tell you a little bit more about it.
So if you want to find
out more about 4 and 20 and [G] demodal tunings and things like that, come visit us at Totally Guitars,
visit us in the forum, let us know what you'd like to see, and just [F#] stay in tune.
Thanks.
