What's up everybody?
Hope [Abm] you guys are doing well during [Eb] this season, this festive [E] season.
I know
I'm getting my festivities [Eb] on.
Look at my tree.
Check it out.
Mini tree.
Anyway, [Dbm] so [Gb] I'm scrolling
[Bb] down my Instagram feed [Abm] and then I [Fm] passed this post by Allen Evans, [E] also [Ab] known [Gm] as Snoop to [Db] most people.
But let me just [C] tell you about Snoop first of all.
He [B] is one of my [Abm] favorite bass players.
I tell him
that all the time.
First time I heard him was on a record with Fred Hammond.
He was playing bass
and I heard it.
I was like, man, who is that guy just ripping all over the [Ebm] album?
Like just crazy
killing.
So I'm like, [Abm] this guy is a genius.
His [Ab] precision is so crazy.
His [Eb] taste, [Abm] his, you know,
his licks, just the way he [B] thinks is just [Fm] amazing.
And you know, I'm all about [A] precision.
You know,
I say [Abm] after every single lesson, make sure your notes are coming out clean, clear and [Dbm] precise.
So he played this lick and actually broke it down a little bit, but I want to break it down [Abm] even
further for you guys.
Let me, let me just [Eb] show you.
Here we go.
Well, hopefully [Abm] you guys can
hear [C] this.
[E]
[G] [B] Here [Db] [Dbm]
[Bb] [Dbm] it is.
Here's the lick.
[G] [Ab] Crazy lick.
That was absolutely [Gb] ridiculous.
[Cm] [Abm] Sorry.
All right.
So if you guys missed it, it was a pentatonic scale, [Gb] but he started on the fifth
note.
So [C] it was like in C sharp [A] minor pentatonic scale, [Bm]
[N] but he started on the fifth note of that.
So he started on the G sharp.
So he played the pentatonic scale starting from that G sharp going
all the way up,
[A] [Dbm] came [C] back to [E] the minor third [Dbm] and then back to the root [Abm] note all together.
[E]
[Gb] [Abm] [Dbm] [Eb] Now I would have played it differently [N] to be able to play that lick that fast.
I probably would have
I would have played it something like that, but this maniac of a bass player used a double [Bm] thumb
technique.
So he went down, down, [Bb] up, down, [B] up, [Dbm] down, up.
[E] [Dbm]
Crazy, [Bb] right?
So to be able to do that in that
speed,
[N] I can't even, I can't even do it.
I can't even attempt to do it, but I just wanted to break
it down to you guys and show you exactly what he was doing.
So C sharp minor pentatonic scale
starting on the G sharp
[A] [Em] [Bb] and you can use one, four, one, four for [Ab] this.
So you got [Bm] one, [Db] four, [Gb] one, four,
[Ab] one, [Dbm] three, one, three, [E] four, [Dbm] one back with the one.
[Gb] Okay.
You can do this whatever [Bb] way is comfortable
for you.
I [Bm] mean, just [Gb] at that speed is just pretty [N] crazy.
I don't know which way or which method to use.
Anyway, I tried it.
I can't get it as clean as him.
So I got to do a little bit more work on it,
but you can start it off slow using as an [Ab] exercise.
[E]
[N] That's actually a great double thumb technique exercise.
So you can even think about it that way
as if you're in the key of E [E] major.
Very [N] simple technique, very simple exercise.
But once you get
that upstroke and the downstroke, once you get that and master it, you can play just about [E] anything.
So let me go over the [B] notes really quick with you guys that he did in the video.
So we have G sharp,
B, [E] C sharp, E, F sharp, [Ab] G sharp again, [B] [Db] B, C sharp.
Now we're going to go [Em] up to the minor third,
the E [Dbm] of C sharp, and then we're back home to the root note.
So he did one, [E] two, three.
And the goal is to get it as clean as possible.
And you [D] guys already know how I am with that.
And Snoop just is a machine.
He's a monster.
I mean, his precision is dead on.
He practices so
much.
[G] I'm honored to be in a band [Gb] with this guy and he's [N] just amazing.
He has no idea how much
I look up to his playing.
Just an overall great guy.
And he's definitely become one of my good
friends.
[Ab] So if you guys don't follow him on [Gb] social media, I'll put some links up here.
Also,
if you don't follow me, I'll put my link up here as well.
So that was Instagram.
[Ab] I'll put the
Instagram here, Facebook, everywhere.
Just follow us everywhere.
I'll put his [D] link as well.
You
won't regret it.
Awesome, amazing bass player and even better person.
So remember guys, make sure
your notes are coming [Ab] out clean, clear, and precise.
And if you need any more insight on this topic,
there's tons of courses inside of the Academy.
Take advantage of that.
I'll see you guys in
Hope [Abm] you guys are doing well during [Eb] this season, this festive [E] season.

[E]
