you to give me a list of some of the musical groups of the late 60s you probably would
include my next group of guests with hits like Hair, Indian Lake, their climb to fame
was quick but they didn't stay there something happened here to talk about their family the
breakup and the reuniting of the group after 20 years now don't take it so personally the
councils Paul, John, Susan and Bob and have a nice time you all [N] here.
This is great.
It's freeze food.
Now what happened?
What did you go away?
Tell me everything.
I didn't know
you'd gone away.
Gone away you mean for the last 20 years.
Why did this band break up?
[B] I'll tell you Joan it's like this you have a family you have seven kids in the family right
as they grow older the oldest one goes to high school goes to college gets a job and leaves
goes to high school gets a resume but we didn't do that because we were all in business together
and we stayed together way beyond the natural point of grown boys and girls and moms and dads
all staying in the same house and that's really like they were uneducated and didn't go to high
school and also they didn't really like my wife or my kids and you know I was rooming with John
much but you know not in my bed with me it just got too small.
Wait a minute they did the part
which family was based on your family.
Yes we think we love you and I think it's kind of interesting
that it was based on our family but we were able to go ahead and you know kind of not do it because
they wanted Shirley Jones to be our mom and we already had a mom in place and ready to go and
we actually had to do the mother's art.
I was dying to do that.
He said if Joan does [F] it we'll reconsider.
Now where is [B] your mother now?
In heaven.
Oh okay so she's not singing with you.
No not today.
Not today.
She's in rock and roll heaven she's
hanging out with Roy and but she's gonna help art with the mix.
But now what what happened to your dad
didn't your father like rule the roost?
No.
You hear these terrible stories I hope you don't get
offended.
No.
But you hear these stories your father ruled the roost and your father was the domineering one and that's
no no no no.
Dad was a great guy.
Dad did what he had to do with seven wild indians and yeah I really think it
was a matter of that if we were going to lead the normal life and you know go off to school at seven
in the morning and not see anybody for 12 hours and come home dad would have come home for dinner
hi kids hi good to see you and then it would have been but we're you know getting up at four in the
morning who wants to get up at three to catch the limo for four.
It's really hard working together and
living together and speaking amongst each other.
Yes.
We love our dad.
He loves us.
So I don't know what the heck was going on.
That's cool in fact we talked to him this morning he goes look at you guys you're going on this show
please don't say anything about me.
Now we didn't.
Oh sorry Mike.
Now what is this?
This is just in case you know that they don't we have every precaution here.
Now let me ask you what
made you decide to get back together?
Where are you rich?
No.
I got this for $25.
Okay we got that for 25.
I bought this from my wife for Mother's Day.
You bought it for your wife?
[N] Yeah oh don't tell the IRS but I bought
this for her and I take it to where because I can't afford it.
But why you made 30 million dollars?
I had surgery.
Cement surgery?
Yeah concrete surgery.
Oh okay.
It would last longer.
Sorry Art.
You know what happened to the money honey?
We spent it.
We did.
I had 30 million dollars.
All of us my dad my dad was in the Navy for 25 years.
We wanted to be in a rock and roll band.
He said I'll do my best.
He did his best.
We had a great run.
We had a great time.
But you should
have something left from 30 more.
At least a house.
Well I think it was probably more like 10.
I do I think that and oh and then when I was 15 I mean we're living we have an 18 hole golf course.
There's a quick mill right there.
You know I mean we just had everything.
We had the best.
So what happened?
Bankruptcy.
When the 70s came did you lose the car?
Did you lose the golf course?
Well yeah but I got drafted when I was 19.
My draft number was two.
So I had to give up the car.
But I'm just saying did it you've gone through a lot of [B] investments.
We didn't know business and
they knew they saw us coming a mile away.
Me and John are bank robbers really.
Why a performance so
dumb?
Barry Manilow sat here and told me.
[Bb] We don't think we are though.
We think we're smart.
But we're not.
Barry Manilow told me he ends up with $16,000 after all those years.
Wow.
I mean and these are.
[Eb] I [B] have a smart if somebody's going to ask us to harmonize.
We can
do that.
Right.
Those other dudes the Madison Avenue guys.
The you know the shysters and the
heisters.
They're smart because they go yeah we know what to do with their money.
And it's like
put it in this pocket and it's like going to Vegas.
Okay I've got a hundred dollars here.
I got 50
here and I'll put my [N] winnings in here.
And when this is empty I'm out of here.
And it's the same thing.
It's not just your story.
It's so many many.
Sam and the Pharaohs.
Tommy James and the Chandel.
Hi Tommy.
Hi Sam.
Do you have groupies?
Huh?
My wife is at home and she is my main groupie.
My
little angel baby is my other groupie.
But is there any other little groupies?
Yeah we have fans.
We have
fans.
We have people who appreciate our old and new music.
Jonah I'm seeing you through the airport
walking with your set of groupies and your little foo-foo.
My dog.
Little foo-foo.
And I have six or
seven.
And it's hard to see you except you know it's you because of the dog.
It's like riding on
the shoulders.
Yes.
I also wear them as a hat.
It's like a barking hat.
Actually you know I did your sound
uh when we were in Florida with Helen and Jeff.
Back to us.
What [B] about nostalgia?
Are you scared
they're going to just label you as nostalgia?
Not at all.
We're an entirely new band.
We've got.
If they come in and see us with nostalgia on their mind they leave thinking 90s and not 60s.
Right.
That's the best way to put it.
And that's always a challenge for us.
I think fortunately for
us we were um seven, nine, twelve, fifteen when we started this whole jamboree.
And now you know I mean I
look in the mirror and I go gee you shouldn't be doing rock and roll.
But I look at Susan I go now
she should be doing rock and roll.
And she needs my help.
Yes.
So I'm with her.
I think you're cool.
A whole new band.
What do you call.
Are you all related or is there any outsider in the band?
I sometimes feel like an outsider.
No we got a we got a bass player and his name's Bobby Giametti.
And he's cool and he makes a heck of a hero sandwich.
But we are all brothers and sisters.
Also brothers.
Yeah.
And you're gonna sing.
We're gonna commercial.
Yes.
Okay great.
I'm just thrilled
to have you here.
I'm thrilled to be here.
I know say it again.
It's fun to be here.

[Eb] I [B] have a _ smart if somebody's going to ask us to harmonize.
We can
do that.
Back to us.
What _ _ [B] _ _ _ about nostalgia?
[G]
But can we [Bb] talk.
For two nights.
[N] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ [N] _
