The next tune we're going to do is by Tommy McLennan.
It's called Shake a Mondown, actually it's titled the new Shake a Mondown.
Shake a Mondown was a tune that was sort of a standard in country blues and recorded by
many, many people.
And we included Tommy McLennan's arrangement or his version of it on this collection.
He was born in Yazoo City, Mississippi in 1908.
Died probably in [D#] Chicago in the 1960s, 62, something like that.
But he, [E]
his big hit was in 1939 for the Bluebird label.
Bottle Up and Go was a big hit, but also the Bluebird Blues, which is in, even though it
was recorded in Chicago in 1941, featured him just playing acoustic guitar and his bass
player Ransom Noling, who on the original recordings, Tommy's not too happy to have
him there and he starts talking to Ransom in between verses sometimes.
It's good to listen to that.
Whiskey Headed Woman was one of his big hits also.
And he also, if you listen to a very famous album by Albert King, Born Under a Bad Sign
on the Stax record, there's a tune on there called A Crosscut Saw.
And the original lyrics and the original tune are written by Tommy McLennan.
