Here is Cortevato, Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars, the Joe Beam tune.
Beautiful song.
And [Bb] you know, I've been playing this song for a long, long, long time.
And I thought, you know what, I'm going to get it out and do a lesson on it.
It's a great song.
And gee, I know it so well, it'd be easy to do.
And then I realized, gosh, I've been playing it wrong for about the last 10 years or 20.
As far as the rhythm goes, and actually some of the chords too, there's kind of, and it's
[Em] funny, it's never been brought to my attention.
So I think there's kind of a jazz version and there's [Bb] kind of a vocal version.
But this is pretty much the vocal version.
And there's really not much difference.
Instead [G] of an A minor,
[Fm] [E] [G] [Em]
[E] sometimes I'll play dominant there.
I [Am] realized it's A minor instead of, or [E] you could do sharp nine, but little things like that.
But it's a great song.
So gosh, you got to get it under your belt.
And it's a nice song done.
This is at 120 beats per minute.
It's really nice done a lot slower as well.
So let's get into this song.
Learn it.
It's a jazz standard.
[Bb] Got to know it.
And it's fun to play and it's pretty easy too.
All right, here we go.
We're starting right here on the fifth fret and I've got a D7 chord.
Basically, it looks like this.
Got an open [A] A, [Gb] F [Am] sharp, and it's actually a D9.
And then I put my finger down here for the D.
So you're going, [D] [Am]
see how that works?
[D] So I'm playing an open A [Am] here.
You can see that.
[D]
[Am] [Bb] [A]
[Am] [D]
So that's how it sounds.
[Em] So it's one, two, [Bb] three, [Am] four, one, and two, and three, four, one.
And here's our first measure.
