Corb Lund - What That Song Means Now #9 - Cows Around chords
Start Jamming...
Now I'm [D] sick and brokenhearted [C] and I know what that song [G] means now
[C] Well, I heard him sing old blues
[E] Everything is better
[G#] cows around
[C#m] [E] Hey, [N] so cows around yeah cows around started out
With that little snippet just that little germ and this is a good example.
This is a recurrent theme in these little
Discussions, but a lot of my songs I hardly ever write a song
Hardly ever I
Usually write songs over the course of months
I get little chunks and I have a bunch of chunks swirling around in my head.
This is one of them
This is a perfect example.
I had this idea.
Everything is better with some cows around I had that little snippet for
Probably a couple years and I knew eventually I was gonna
[G#] You know write the verses all sarcastically
Put a bunch of sarcastic shit in the verses about how much I'm paying the ass there
But but I never really fleshed it out musically until [D#] it sort of came to me last year
after thinking about it for months and months but
It turned into kind of a [B] complex song actually from that simple idea for silly as it is.
It's kind of complex musically
Relative to what I usually do
It's got kind of a typical
[G#] simple jazz swing chord structure, but of course
I'll walk you through it.
It's a little complex.
It's sort of a
For advanced guitar students, but [B] it goes from the [E] root chord
[A#] To the [G#] three
It's a three seventh chord [A] and then [C#m] six minor
To the two [F#] seven
[B] Back to the one [G#m] to the six chord on [C#] the seventh
[F#] Two minor [B] five seven back [E] to the one one chord
[G#] three seven
[C#m] six minor
[F#] two seven [G#m] one chord
Six [C#] seven
[F#m] two minor
[B] five
So [E] there's a [G]
assignment for you.
[N] He learned that and then it gets weirder yet because
after that it goes into this weird sort of
Structural sort of bridge thing that leads you into the verse [E] each time
[F#]
[B]
What else?
[A] And to me that sounds normal, but I've been told by people that it ain't so I don't know maybe it comes from the speed
But uh, yeah, so it [N] got more complex and more complex and pretty soon there's there's a whole another thing for the verses
They're a whole different
So it's sort of almost modulates the five chord [G] verses and then back to the one for [E] the choruses
[F#] and if that wasn't enough then we put a bridge in it and kind of gave it on the record sort of a
Ghost riders in the sky kind of feel and that just goes from the one down to the six minor back [E] and forth
[G#m]
[C#] [G#m]
[F#]
[N] And
Then that's all finished and then Grant comes up with a little lead a little head melody lead melody sort of based on the [D#] chorus
[F#] [E] [G#]
[A] [G#] And then we [G] harmonize that and yeah, so it turned into this kind of monstrosity which I'm happy with I really like it
I think it's
Maybe the most complicated cow song out there.
I don't know but
In terms of learning guitar stuff [G#] on it and learning song structure, it's probably one of the more complex ones on the record so
Give it a shot if you like, but it might be better to tackle
Something else first, but another interesting thing about this song is it's a good example of
How sometimes some some
Rambling some of my songs [A] I get them
They're very difficult to fill up like I'll get [F#] a chorus an idea for a verse, but I have to beat my brains into to
[G] Fill in enough to get two verses and a chorus just to lash it all together
And then other songs are the total opposite like this one where I once I get the [F#] structure
I'll come up with like ten verses and just keep coming and coming and so
That's one of the and luckily since we did the acoustic version and the electric version of this all the cabin fever record
I was able to swap out some of the lyric some of the verses so there's two or three verses in the electric version that
are swapped out with different verses than the acoustic version and
Otherwise, I would have had either leave some of my entirely or else
You know some ten minutes long.
[D#] It's already like five so
[E]
Let me bestow this Western blessing [C#] and share what I have found [F#m] may you always [B] have
Cowboys may you always have cows
[D] [G]
[D]
What [C] that song [G] means now
