[Gm] [Db] [G] [F]
[G] This lesson will cover how to play congregational songs in the key of E flat.
You can use this pattern on I'm a Soldier in the Army of the Lord, Jesus is on the Main
Line, I Get Joy When I Think About What He's Done for Me, and several others that use [Eb] the same pattern.
[Ebm] [Eb] [Ab]
[Ebm] [Fm] [Eb]
To start this lesson, your right hand is going to hit a B flat to a C, then your left hand
is going to hit two E flats, right hand is going to finish out an E flat chord inverted.
G, B flat, E flat.
I like to bounce on that [Ab] E flat in [Dbm] my left and I [Eb] add that B flat from time to time.
[G] And when you're bouncing your right hand, you're going to bounce between an inverted E flat
chord, [Eb] G, B flat, E flat, and an A flat [Ab] chord, A flat, C, E flat, with that B flat in there.
[Eb]
[Ebm] [Gb] Army of the Lord, you can go to a B flat, [Eb] D flat, E [Gb] flat, and a G flat.
And your left [Eb] hand is going to [F] walk [G] [Ab]
[Eb] up to the A flat.
E [F] flat, F, [Gb] F sharp, [G] G, [Ab] A flat.
And when your left hand hits the A flat,
[Ebm] [C]
you're going to hold a G flat, B flat, C, E flat,
and you can add this G flat on top if you would like.
[Ab] Then your left hand is going to walk down to the F.
[G] [F] [Ab] A flat, G, G flat, [Gb] F.
[Bbm] And when your
left hand hits the F, your right hand is going to go back to that B flat, D flat, [Gb] E flat,
G flat, [Fm] [Ab] B flat in your left, with an inverted F minor chord in the right, [Fm] A flat, C, [Ebm] F.
[Fm] [Eb]
Resolve that phrase out on an E flat in your left with an E flat chord we started on, inverted.
And then you would play that section again.
[Ebm]
[Fm]
[Eb]
[Ebm] [C]
[Gb] [Fm] [Eb]
[D] Now let's look at if we went from I'm a soldier in the Army of the Lord to Jesus is on the main line.
You would use this same exact chord, but you would change up the rhythm [Eb] just a little bit.
I'm a soldier,
[Ebm]
[Fm] [Eb] Jesus is on the main line.
[Ebm]
[Ab] [Ebm]
[Eb] Notice [C] how I didn't do the walk down in my left hand, but I stayed on that top chord
and then eventually ended up on the [Eb] E flats with the inverted E flat chord in the right.
So you'll notice in playing congregational songs, you're playing the same chords.
You just have to change up the rhythm sometimes, and sometimes you have to leave out a chord
or two or add a different pattern.
[Ebm]
[Ab] [Gb]
[Fm] [Eb] Change it.
[Ebm]
[C] [Eb]
It's not to say that you couldn't have added [Ab]
[Gb] those [Fm] [Eb] chords to Jesus [G] is on the main line,
but pay close attention [Ab] to how the soloist is singing the song and add them as you will.
Another part that you would use on the Jesus is on the main line section in E flat is where
you would [Eb] go.
[D] [G]
[D] [Db]
[Gm] [G] [Bb]
[C] [G]
