[Bb] [G]
Greetings everyone.
[N] I'm the Chancellor of Soul Mike Boone from WCOS Internet Radio.
And today I'm going to feature a rare vocal [Cm] version of a million-selling instrumental hit
released during the summer of [Bb] 1968.
[G] Recorded by a gentleman from Norristown, Pennsylvania,
and spark a national [Cm] dance craze.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to [Bb] you Cliff Nobles and company, [D] The Horse.
[A] [Cm]
[G]
Legendary songwriter, producer Jesse James took Cliff Nobles into Frank Virtue Studios
[N] located on North Broad Street in Philadelphia to record a song he wrote called [A] Love Is Alright.
Now [A] after the session was over, producer Barbie Martin and Virtue had asked James about [G] a B-side.
Now of course you know it would be very costly to [Eb] record another [C] song.
So James has said, look, I don't care what you use.
Take the instrumental track and use it as the B [G]-side.
Now of course, the B-side didn't have a name.
So Martin and Virtue had tried to come up with a few names
and finally had Christian it after a former popular dance called The Horse.
Now The Horse was originally a dance that was created in Chicago in 1960.
[E] But was revived in early 1968 by recording from a [Bb] group in New York City called [D] The Preparations
entitled Giddy Up [G] on the Heart and Soul label produced [C] by Miss Kathy Lynn.
Now, fortunately, Love Is [Bb] Alright has sank without a trace.
[E] But his flip side, The Horse, [Gm] became popular when a [Ab] DJ from Tampa, Florida,
played the B-side [Cm] accidentally and also began singing on the [Bbm] song.
When the listeners [D] told him to be quiet and let the music play,
called the company and told them that they had a hit on their hands.
[G] Now The Horse became the A-side.
[Eb] Love Is Alright became the B-side.
Sold [C] two million copies and restarted a nationwide [A] dance craze.
Now, everyone knows that Love Is Alright is the only known vocal version to The Horse.
[C] You know, that the record by a public known, you know.
But until now, a lot of [G] people did not know that Cliff Nobles went back into the studio
and recorded a rare vocal version of The Horse, instructing how the dance should go
since the dance had [C] became so popular.
Now, for your listening pleasure, here's Cliff Nobles and company's rare vocal version.
[G] The world-renowned 1968 classic [E] hit, The Horse.
