Let Me Go, Let Me Go is one of the only songs on the album that I didn't write.
Casey Beathard and Tom Shapiro, both two good friends of mine that I have written with before, wrote that song.
And we were sitting around and Casey played me [G#] a cut of it, just him and guitar, vocal.
And I went, oh my God.
And I just begged him, I begged Casey, I said, dude, you gotta give me this song, you gotta give me this song.
I think someone had it on hold, as a matter of fact, I know they did.
And I was just waiting patiently.
And then when they [G#] dropped it and didn't do it,
because I think it was a little too young of a song for that artist at the time that was going to [A] do it.
I just started following him around.
I went to a son's football game.
I was just like, you gotta give me this song, you gotta give me this song.
I said, look, man, I know that I'm a new artist.
I know that I'm a brand new artist.
But I said, this is a hit, it's a smash.
Is there any way you'd take a chance?
And he goes, take it.
And we had a guitar vocal.
And then so me and Jimmy went in and then Bob came on board [G] and revamped it [C#] to where it is now.
And now it's a power ballad, when before it was just him on guitar.
They [F#]
[C#] were sitting on his tailgate.
[G#] She was loving on his roughneck.
[F#] They were talking about running away.
He was puffing on a cigarette.
[C#] Just thinking, [D#m] huh, how am I going to say goodbye?
[F#] He said, girl, you got a good ear.
You don't need to mess with.
I ain't going nowhere.
She said, how's the bad Texas?
[A#m] He got up and shook his head.
Then he [G#] said, ain't you been listening?
It's [F#] never going to work out.
And I think it'd be a good time now to [C#] let me go.
You don't need me, baby.
I'm [C#] old enough.
The way [F#] you are.
And don't [A#m] you know?
I'm [G#] no good for you and it'll only break [F#] your heart.
If you don't [C#] let me go.
[F#] He said, other than a dreamer, [Fm] I ain't nothing but a dripper.
You can do a lot better.
He leaned over and he kissed.
[A#m] He said, you got another year of college [G#] and a good mama and a daddy and me.
[F#] I got ninety-three dollars and this old 82 Chevy.
So let me [C#] go.
You [F#] don't need me, baby.
I'm [C#] old enough.
The way [F#] you are.
[A#m] Don't you know?
[G#] I'm no good for you and it'll only break [F#] your heart.
If you don't [C#] let me go.
[D#m] She said, nice try.
You [C#] can't hide behind those shades that are [F#] on your face.
See, I [D#m] don't think you're all that tough.
[C#] I just think you're scared of love.
[F#] And I think I won't take up that much space.
[C#] So let me go.
[F#] Take me with you, baby.
I [C#] belong [F#] where you are.
[A#m] We both know [G#] that you're not as strong as you think [F#] you are.
So [C#] let me go.
[F#] Take me with you, baby.
I [C#] belong where [F#] you are.
[D#m] We both [A#m] know [G#] I'm no good for you and it'll only break [F#] your heart.
Down the road.
If you don't let me [C#]
go.
[F#]
[C#] With you, baby.
[F#]
Let me go.
Oh,
[F#] with you, [C#] baby.
[C#] [F#]
Just let me go.
