[Gb] [B] Welcome, I'm [Gb] Rick Kua and this is New [B] Song Cafe at WorshipTogether.com.
At the heart of today's song, Not To Us, is the answer to the tug of war between the human
desire to be celebrated and the reason we were created, to worship God.
Our friend Chris Tomlin will talk about it [Gb] and show it to us as [B] well.
Thanks for joining us for New Song Cafe at WorshipTogether.com.
Not to us, but to [A] your [E] name be the glory.
[B] Not to us, but to [E] your name be the glory.
Chris, good to see you today.
Thank you.
[B] Now, I know you've got a bunch of good friends out there [Abm] in the worship community.
You've toured with a bunch of guys overseas in England, here throughout the States.
Right.
[Ab] Yeah, God has just put together some friendships and relationships that have just been awesome.
[G] It's also just influenced my songwriting.
This song, Not To Us, [N] I wrote, I was looking at Psalm 115, verse 1, it says, Not to us,
O Lord, [Ab] not to us, but to your name be the glory.
I thought, you know, that's not to us, that's seven simple letters, but really an impactful statement.
I was just working with Jesse on it again.
Jesse and I were just kind of looking at it lyrically.
I kind of had the music idea, and Jesse's helped me finish the lyric.
I got together with a buddy that you might know, a little short [G] English guy named Matt Redmond.
Oh, yeah.
[N] He was actually in California.
I showed him the song, and he really [Ab] believed in it as well.
He actually added several lyrics to it, but he would not let me put it down, so you'll
never see his name as a songwriter. Really?
That's just so him, isn't it?
I mean, just like that.
So, what do you do?
Send him a fruit basket every now and then?
Yeah, hell yeah.
Send him a picture of me.
Yeah, right.
[Bbm]
[Fm] Oh, man, that's a beautiful song.
Would you show it to [Bb] us?
Yeah.
[Fm] Once again, this is like a straight [Bb] ahead kind of rock beat, straight beat.
[F]
[Eb]
[Bb] The cross before me, the world [F] behind, no [Bb] turning back, raise the [F] banner high.
It's not [Ebm] for me, it's all [F] for you.
Let the heavens shake and split [Bb] the sky.
Let the people clap their [F] hands and cry.
It's not [Eb] for us, it's all [F] for you.
[Bb] Not to [F] us, to [Eb] your name, be the glory.
[Bb]
[Eb]
[Bb] The earth is shaking, [F] the mountains shouting, [Eb] it's all for you.
[Bb] The waves are crashing, [F] the sun is raging, [Eb] it's all for you.
[Bb] The universe is spinning and [Eb] singing, it's all for you.
[C] Your children [F] dance, dance, dance, [Eb] yeah, it's all for you.
My all, [Bb] [F]
[Ebm] it's gonna, [Fm] my all for you.
That's beautiful.
That is great, man.
Walk us through those changes, would you?
The chorus, just two chords [Bb] in one.
So you're, not to us, to your, and then the little pinky [Eb] finger there.
I think that's kind of the [Bb] chorus.
It's not to us, to [Eb] your name, be the glory.
It'll sustain.
And then the verses are, [Bb] it's the A to the [G] F sharp minor, [F] to the E [Eb] chord, to the D.
And the bridge, the big, [G] kind of belting out, you know, you really want, I think, vocally,
you just really want to go for it at this [A] point, you know.
Even [Bb] if it's bad, just go for it.
And so, it's like the earth is shaking, the mountains [Eb] shouting, it's all for [Gm] you.
[Fm] That's just the same as F sharp minor, just playing a little bit different [Bb] way.
The waves [F] are crashing, it's [Eb] all for [Bb] you.
So basically, just staying within those [B] chords, that's all there is.
Fantastic.
Thank [E] you for being with us.
It's my pleasure.
Always great to see you.
Thank you.
[B] Not to us, but to your [A] [E] name, be the glory.
[B] The earth is shaking, the mountains [E] shouting, it's all for you.
[Abm] The waves are crashing, [Gb] the sun is waving.
