Hi, the goal of this video is to share the chords that Stephen Stills uses in his song Change Partners
It's a really nice song [G] and if you want to see him play it or see how it's played and understand the rhythm
I would just watch him [F#] play it on YouTube.
You can click the [F] link right here and watch Stephen Stills play this [F#] song
I first started to [F] learn this song [G#] from this link right here
It's a great [E] version of the song as well
[F#] Here I'm just going [F] to show diagrams [N] and of the chords and show what chords are played throughout
And kind of explain a little bit about the song.
So the song the verse is really up here on the seventh fret and
Still he's toggling between this chord [A]
and then [E] this chord
so here what's happening [C#] is we start off by playing on the open [A] a string and
The [D] formation is we have the second finger here first [F#] second finger and second finger on the fourth string
Seventh fret on [F] the D string and the first [F#] finger on the [G#m] sixth fret third string or the D string
The G string sorry
So we have D [G] string on the seventh [A] fret
With the [F#m] second finger and the G string on the [C#] sixth fret with the first finger
and play this [G#m] chord open [A] nice and
Open [F#] and
Stills will go up and down with the third and [A] fourth fingers on the seventh and ninth fret up [G#] for this chord
So it's gonna [A] go
[G]
The last is it might be [F#] open or you just can [C#] toggle back and forth as you see fit
[D#] But if you watch Stephen play you'll see [E] just how he does it.
It's a very nice [A] combination
And then he just shifts [Em] down with now an open E
[E] [A] [E]
Same formation now just be careful [G] to rest your hand a little bit this way to mute out [N] the G string
You don't want to hear that now in the chorus.
All he's doing is
very nicely doing it of course, but he starts off with a D [D] and
[A] then a
and then e
At the end of the chorus.
He just [F#] toggles around with the D chord a little bit
he leaves the the E [D] string open and
Then builds it up back to the D and then D sustained to
Plays it almost in the same way that he [E] toggles the original chords from the very first verse.
It was sound a little bit like [D] this
[Dm] And then he goes right back to the verse
[A]
[B] [A] And I suggest playing out the song really [D] focus on the open chords and the harmonies and the
