Start Jamming...
Yeah, so you just [E] finished your European tour?
Yes.
How did that go?
Yeah, it was [Ab] good.
We go probably twice a year.
This year we went twice.
And usually we go once.
You got a pretty good response there.
Yeah, yeah.
It's [Bbm] the same as here.
It's nice.
[Abm] It's a little different.
Yeah, it's nice to play hometown again.
Yeah, kind of frightening, but nice.
[Ab] That's cool, yeah.
[Em] I was thinking, [Bb] I'm always impressed [Em] by the way that [F] your songs are informed [E] by literature
and poetry [D] and nature and [G] what [Gm]
kind of stuff do you read usually?
[Db] Are you reading anything [E] right now?
Yeah, I've been reading [N] some Alice Munro lately.
He's read a [E] story by her, The New Yorker, and just thought, wow, Alice Munro.
[B] Now, what [D] has she written?
[E] I'm really [G] familiar with that name.
I don't know, like 12, a lot of books are [F] short stories.
She's a short story writer.
So I've been reading her.
What else?
[Eb]
[G] I don't know, I can't remember.
I just read a book called Human Smoke about pacifists in World War [N] II.
That was really interesting.
By Nicholson Baker.
[Bb] Is [Gm] [Dm]
[Bb] that an official media letter?
I [Dm] can't figure it out.
You [Gm] know, when I first saw it, I was like, what is the mess?
I don't know if anybody quite understands it yet.
Yeah, yeah.
I can't get my brain around it.
[Db]
[Gbm] [G] You must have to do gassing.
We talk to people, [Ab] and we sell these for like $5 [E] a piece.
Oh, yeah, [G] yeah.
People have been amazing.
It's been really cool.
[D] We got some help in [Dm]
Saskatoon to replace our strut.
The guy said, we'll replace your strut if you let it drag you around behind our truck on a pallet.
In a muddy field.
We're like, [G] yeah, let's do it.
Did it?
[Dm] It was awesome.
We're trying to experience anything we can in the area, similar to what they might do.
I've never done that before.
That's incredible.
Yeah, it was fun.
The other thing I wanted to ask you about was, on a pretty regular basis,
there's pretty good data between the albums that are really high quality.
How do you sort through materially?
There isn't much to torture.
Yeah, it's mostly what you see is what you get.
Yeah, we pretty much work on them.
We work on them for a long time, [G] [A] and then they're caught.
All [E] of a sudden we go, all right, there's [G] a record.
That's the way it is.
Like carrying water.
Yeah, and there's the idea that sometimes water is a good way of putting it.
Yeah, like carrying [B] water to the county.
[Dm]
It's kind of an awesome experience being able to be so close.
Vancouver.
Vancouver, yeah.
It's almost like three weeks in.
We're getting there.
Taking our time as we go, you know.
I'm really happy.
Almost.
We've made enough progress that people are kind of giving us legitimacy.
It's not like when we were in Shillawack and we're like,
yeah, we're traveling to Montana, and they're like, yeah.
Good for you.
Yeah, yeah.
No, [Db] it's been [Eb] very interesting.
[Dm] Most unique thing I've ever done.
[G] It's pretty cool to be able to be even here.
Folk Fest, we didn't really [Em] expect it.
I mean, we just kind [D] of happened to be in Winnipeg.
We're like, well, we've got to go to the weaker than sight and find out if they're around town.
And bam, there they are.
[Dm] Somehow we got into this.
It's been [E] amazing.
[D] You guys are weird.
[G] I don't know.
