[G] Hey, I'm Brian Sutton and thanks for popping in this DVD.
We're going to spend some time talking about my guitar playing and hopefully answering
some questions that other guitar players may have had.
One [B] of the things I learned in [E] classical training was the concept of a rest stroke.
[D] It allows, one of the things that happens on the downs there, is I'm actually forcing
the pick into the string that's [G#] below the string that I'm hitting.
So that's the [D] D string there.
[F#] And I'm going to go into the G string.
That does a couple different things.
It [G] keeps my pick in the string so when I'm playing and I need to go back up, the pick's
already there as opposed to this method.
And [G] it has a B part that starts with a C [C] chord, and it [G]
goes [D] to a D7 on the second half
of the B section.
[B] And I chose the melody, [F#]
and I remember when I was learning that, and thinking, wow, [E] that's
an interesting way to do that.
[F#] [Am]
[G] [Bm] [G]
Like there's a little lick that I'll use that actually sweeps over three strings.
[C]
[G] [A]
So what I'm doing there is sweeping across the G and the D and the C.
[C]
We're playing this lick out [F#] of a G, kind of ending a phrase in G, say.
[C] And then playing [A#] the B flat, [G#m]
hammering on the B, [G] and then hitting a downstroke on the G.
[N]
