Welcome [Bb] to this video where I show you how to play [Db] The River by Bruce Springsteen on
guitar and [C]
harmonica.
_ So [Bb] the version we're going to do here is the, we'll stick close to the [D] studio version.
[Db] Okay, so it starts off [A] basically three parts to the song.
We have _ the intro, _
[Gb] we have a verse, [G] _ and the progression for [Ab] the verse is the same as the
harmonica [B] solo in the middle.
_ [F] We have [Ab] four verses and then we have a chorus.
_ Okay, so let's start with [G] the intro.
We go start with [Em] E minor, _ _ _ _ _ to G, [G] _ _ _ _
_ _ [D] to D, _ _ _ _ _ [C] to C. _ _ _ _
[Bb] And [D] as [Db] often, this is also [C] played as a C9
_ _ _ or C add [Bb] 9, it's C major and [D] we play the D.
That's going to be played here on the [Db] third
fret, second string.
[D] _ _ _ [C] _ _ We don't actually need our first finger here on the [E] first [C] fret. _
It's just easy to play that way. _ _
_ [E] I think [C] I'll probably, well I'll probably interchange those.
So anyways, so where [E] were we?
We were at E [G] minor, G, [D] _ D, [C] to C or C add 9.
And then we walk down to A, so we go from the C and then we [Bm] go fifth _ _ _ string, second fret.
So [C] _ _ _
[B] _ B and [Am] then just take it off and it's A minor.
So _ _ _ _ A minor, [G] then we go to G and _ _ [C] to C. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [A] Okay, so let's go through that and I'm going to
add the harmonica.
[Db] Let's start slow.
I'm not going to talk out each [Ab] note to blow and draw.
[Am] I'll just put it up here [Ab] so you can see that.
So let's go through [A] that.

Okay, [G] let's see if we can make this happen here.
[B] So this is the harmonica solo, it's the same [A] chords as the verse and this comes in after
_ two [Gb] verses and two choruses.
_ [Eb] Okay, let's give this a [Bbm] go. _ _
