[F] I wrote the song in the mid-90s.
It was my conversation I was having with myself.
As you roll along, your better angels come in and out of sight.
[Cm] I was looking to fill my music with purpose once again.
[E] Living in [F] California, [Eb] there were a lot of migrant worker issues, [F] [Cm] immigration issues [F] constantly.
[C] [F] [Ab] You had a sense that where California [Fm] was in the mid-90s was where [Cm] the rest of the country was going to be going in the next decade.
And it really has.
A [F] combination of running around by myself [Bb] and with the band and coming [F] in contact with a lot of people [Ab] that work at Variety for a variety of different [Cm] [F] grassroots social organizations
[Bb] who were seeing the [C] demand for [Cm] their services [Ab] for food banks and such had been going up and up and up even as we heard [Eb] about the economic bubble on top.
From this song, I wrote an album of [F] songs [Cm] kind of set in the West.
Let me just sing it.
