This is really a great story.
There's there's a man in this church, and I won't single him out
Because he didn't give me permission to but he shared a story with me about four years ago
About how his father found out before he was he was born before this man in my church was born
his daddy found out that he was gonna die of cancer and
So as a gift to his son he wrote letters
For his son to read as
he grew older as he grew older and as he hit milestones in his life and
It was such an amazing story to hear that that that a father would have that much love and the most compassion that much foresight
To leave his son such an such an unbelievable undeniable gift and as a songwriter
You know man you give me an idea like that
I mean a much less a true story, then I I [G#] was compelled to write about it
[F#] So this is this is a true story song and it's called letters
[G#]
[F#]
[G#]
[F#]
I [C] was
Unborn child [F#] when daddy passed away
He knew [C] there were some things [F#] he'd never get to see
So [A#m] he took his [F#] pen and [F#]
gave his heart to me
And it's [B]
almost like
[F#] Every letter that he wrote he knew what I was
The day I turned 13 and the day I learned to drive
He found a way to share
through special times in life
[A#m] Though I never heard [B] his voice I know [F#] him well
And I'm [B]
finding out [F#] that I am so much wiser for
[B] the truth is [F#] letters have
[B] He [C#] called me [D#m] son
[B] Said I [F#] hope you find
[A#m] [B] All I've learned [D#] about [D#m] living
Written between [B] the lines
[D#m] Letters I left [B] behind
[G#]
[F#]
He was a [G#] faithful man
[F#] Who lived the words I read
his words of [G#] wisdom
came [F#] from the Bible by mouth and the
legacy [B] that he
passed on to [F#] me
Has [B] touched my life
[F#] And molded me [G#] into the man [F#] he prayed for me to be
