Hi everyone, Michael Caswell here, and we're going to be taking a look at a great track by Robin Trower
first thing to say about this track is
That it's not quite tuned to E flat
So I've taken the liberty of actually tuning my guitar to E flat because most times
When I've checked out old trial footage is usually tuned to E flat
If you check out the track, it's kind of there's concert pitch in E, and there's E flat
It's kind of sounds like they've tuned it around about here.
It's not quite
It's kind of not quite the middle is but it's closer to E flat than it is concert pitch, so we're going E flat
So I'm just going to give you my kind of
Notes on the guitar just in case you want to quickly kind of try to tune your guitar to the to my guitar to E
Flat here.
We [Eb] go.
Here's an E
[Ab] There's an A
There's [Db] a D
[Gb] G
[Bb]
[Ebm]
[Eb] [Gb]
So let's take a look at the track the track opens with with this kind of flick at them on the second fret on the D string [Eb] and
There's no mystery there.
It's just kind of pulling on and off on the second fret
You can if you [N] if you can't get it up to speed it means probably means that you're not using the tip of your finger
Enough don't try not to you can't do it with a flap your finger.
You got to use the actual [Eb] tip
and then the actual kind of
Intro riff which is slightly [F] different from the verse riff, but the actual intro does [Eb] this
[Gb] [Ebm] [Ab] [Eb]
[Gb] [Eb]
[Gb] [Ebm] [Ab] [Eb]
[Gb] [Ebm] [Ab] [Eb]
[Db] [Ab] [Eb]
[Gb] [Ebm] [Ab] [Eb]
[Gb] [G]
[Db] Now there's two kind of ways of approaching this
You've got the actual riff and in between each riff.
There's just a little ad-lib so the ad-libs are all around
An E minor pentatonic, but the let's just look at the actual riff first of all the intro does a little kind of [Eb] build up
[A] [Bb] Which is an [Eb] open string?
[Bb] And then the open string on the [Eb] east on the low E, and then you're going one two on the a [A] string
[Bb] And [Gb] this is your kind of [Eb] top part of the chord which you kind of top two strings on the third fret
[Gb] [Eb] [A] [Gb]
[Ebm] [Ab] There's [Eb] a little bounce there
[Gb] [Eb] Low to [Ebm] high low a to the high two strings
[Ab] This is the kind of killer part
Got a little two fret band well, so you're on the second fret
And you're doing a double stop band
[Eb]
[Abm] so
I'm kind of using my first and second finger because my third and fourth finger [Eb] taking care of those
[Ebm] Seconds care of that those top two strings on that third fret for the stuff for this little
[Ab] First and second finger, and it's basically the second fret but a little kind of bluesy bend
and [Ebm] [Ab] [Eb] [Eb]
then we go down [Bb] further
[Eb]
Catch the open string so open string on the low E
[N]
