The Universal logo's been around for so long,
and it's so iconic.
My task was to take on this great theme
and do something new with it.
[Eb] We want to utilize the classic melody that we all know
and bring it into the 21st century,
but [Cm] still really be [Gb] respectful of what Jerry Goldsmith
had originally written.
Okay, [B] let's roll it.
I want it to be [E] a celebration of all the great movies
Universal's [Eb] done over the years.
Connecting the past with the present,
the main line that we've always heard in the horns,
that's still there,
but you have the movement of the music underneath [C] it.
[Eb] I had a few sneak peeks at the visuals
that were being worked [Gb] on,
the globe coming [Fm] in and the letters spinning [G] around
and seeing [Bm] the cityscapes.
[E] That was a huge influence for me, to [Bb] add choir.
[Bbm] [F]
[G] [Db] [Abm]
[Bb] There's also kind of a [Db] sparkly, shimmery type of [Cm] thing
throughout the [Dbm] piece that I've done with [Ebm] violins.
[Gbm]
[Fm] It gives it [Eb] kind of the magic feel.
And at the end of the piece, I have a whole drum cadence.
The thing that I think [D] people really latch onto
is the bass [Ebm] drum there.
[Dbm] I use drums from [Db] around the world,
like djembes and [Eb] African drums.
And I thought that was kind of a nice way to bring
that idea of Universal [Ab] Pictures being global.
Very nice!
[Dm] Give me chills.
[Eb] It's pretty incredible that every time I announce a CFL
film by Universal,
I'll hear the logo music that I've conducted.
[F]
It [Gm] cues you in to say,
[Eb] okay, put [F] away the phone,
stop eating your popcorn for a split second,
pay [Dbm] attention.
[B] [Db] [Eb]
It's a huge honor.
