Oh yeah, the thumb pick style.
Yeah, it's an odd [E]
style because everybody would correlate [Gb] the thumb pick to doing [Ab] [B] the old [E] four trackers.
[A] [Db] [E]
And then there's [F] guys like Tommy Emmanuel, they all play, they do [Gb] some great stuff with them.
You know, they're all playing.
[E] You're able to do a lot of bass lines and melody [E] lines simultaneously.
[D] But I've always [E] played that way and that's just growing up.
When I listen to Jerry Reed and some people, my dad played finger [G] style and he did those kind of [B] things.
You know, those [E]
back and forth, you know, you get the bass lines going.
[A] You know, and you can also do [G] them, [B] [E]
[Am] you can do all the [Gb] bass lines and the melody lines together.
[E] But I just have [Em] always been playing just a rhythm, you know, I'll use it like a pick.
Single lines, I have sort of an [Bb] odd [E] style.
I'll use a downstroke of a thumb pick and [E] then up, up, down, up, middle finger and then down with the thumb
and then up with the ring finger, you know, for [Am] a single line.
[E] [A] You [E] know, [B] sometimes [E] [Bb] I'll just use it [D] as a pick as well.
[A] [Bb] But most of the time, if it's fast, you know, I'm doing, [G] [C] [D]
[Abm] [G] you can see the, [E]
[G] [A]
[E]
[B] [Bb] you know.
But there's [Gb] no, it's just [Ab] back and forth.
But usually you can count on like maybe the thumb starting with a downbeat.
And then it's never an upstroke but the thumb's always on [Em] the down.
So if [Gb] there's a [Bb] pickup to the bar or, you know, then I might use an eighth note pickup with, [C] you know,
one, [A] two, three, four.
[Gbm] [Bb] You know, it's got a, it never comes from the thumb.
The [Gb] thumb's always the downbeat.
Unless you're playing, you know, back and forth like that.
[E] But I'll use [Bb] that and then [B] sometimes I'll, [E] you know, for [Gb] the whole thump and stuff.
Also a lot of [Bb] times, you know, the double stop thing is a lot of people, [A] I'll use these two together.
[D] [Am] Get that double stop.
[D] [A]
[E] You know, you get [A] that.
[G] [A]
So, [E]
[A] two strings at once.
[Abm] Also this finger, I don't use [E] it, I have the fake fingernails on.
They're not very attractive but they super glue on.
They're just totally for practical purposes only but you can see that they're [Bb] very, you know, they're not flimsy.
They're very stiff and thick.
So, but I'll use this finger for popping, you [A] know, like, you know, if you use that.
[Em]
[E] Pulling up with the meat of my finger like.
[E] [B] [A]
[D] You know, [Bb] it's good for that.
So, [E] it's just little things, [A] little bad [Em] habits I've [Gb] acquired over my years of guitar playing since [C] I was a kid.
[A]
[Gb] Why switch now?
It's worked all these years.
[E] I see more guys playing with it, go, how do you do that with it?
Like, boy, and I'll say, I don't know if I advise you to do that now if you've been playing with the pick for years.
I mean, I started out when I was like eight years old, you know, and it's just become a natural thing.
But guys starting to switch styles like when they've been playing the guitar for about ten years or so
and then they want to switch over that is a very awkward thing to do.
They find that it's, you know, you have that ability when you're a kid to learn things faster, you know,
because you're more, you know, enthused and you got much more time.
And that's when all the bulk of the learning comes in, your brain's developing and all that.
So, as a kid, I went through a lot of styles.

[A] [Bb] But most of the time, if it's fast, you know, I'm doing, [G] [C] [D]
[Abm] [G] you can see the, [E]
[G] [A]
