[F#] [D] Remember when ex-Toto [F#] lead singer Bobby [A] Kimball ran into [D] Toto's Steve Lukather at NAMM this year?
Well, Bobby Kimball gives his side of that story.
I'm John [A] Boone from Rock History Music.
[D] It was fun [F#m] to talk, on Skype that is, [D] with the original lead singer of Toto, Bobby Kimball,
[A] who has nothing but love [D] when he comes to [F#m] talking about any former member or current [D] member of [F#m] Toto.
They ran into each other thanks to Bobby Kimball's producer and co-writer, John Zeka.
He found [E] [F#m] out that Luke was at NAMM.
He's there with Bobby.
So he basically gets them together, takes some pictures, they shake hands, give [D] hugs,
[F#m] and everything seemed really, really [Bm] good.
We asked Bobby Kimball about that meeting and about his relationship [F#m] with Steve Lukather.
Actually, I haven't seen Steve in seven or eight years.
And, you know, it's just not seeing someone that you care about for a very long time.
And, well, actually, [E] there were a [F#] lot of people that were big fans [G] of his that, you know,
[D] they were saying some bad things about me.
But, [Bm] you know, Steve [G] told me [D] when I saw him at the NAMM show, I gave him a big hug and I said,
I love you.
And he said, I love you too, [Gm] brother.
And that was super [D] fun for me.
[Bm] I can't tell you how great it was.
[G] [D] Well, you know, as I told you the first time [A] I talked to you, there's just,
I [F#m] don't know anyone who doesn't want a universe where Bobby Kimball and Steve Lukather [E] are enemies.
I think there are [A] some troublemakers in [B] every group, but I don't think [F#m] people want you guys to be,
Hey!
We're enemies.
Well, that's [F#] awesome.
Look at your face.
[D] Now, [F#m] I have a video a friend sent me that Steve, actually, [G#] this picture came up first on the video.
And [A] then Steve started [D] talking on the microphone.
They asked him about [A] me and he said, love [D] him.
And that was so fantastic.
It was great to see Steve because I just, you know, I care so much about the way he plays.
[F#m] We [D] were the [F#m] beginning in Toto.
I remember, I remember the very first night.
I have, oh my God, down on the floor [B] next to me, I have [F#] this huge, [D] it's a CD player [F#] and a double cassette recorder and everything.
[D]
Well, I had it in 77, 1977 [F#m] when Toto was in, the six members of Toto were in the same room at the very, very first time jamming.
Well, I was 29 years old.
Okay.
Were you, I just did a thing on the ages of all the members on the best of Toto.
I'm going to tell you, [G] Steve Lugather at the time was [D] 19.
I'm 10 years older than he [Bm] is.
And my [G] God, when I heard him [D] playing that,
[B] we [Bm] did, [Am] actually [G] we did a little bit, [D] just, they weren't songs.
But we [Am] did a [Bm] little bit of hold the line.
[G]
We did a little [D] jam on, on [A] girl goodbye and a couple of other songs.
[F#m]
But [E] the, [F#m] the solo in the middle of that jam of girl goodbye, my [G#] God, it was one of the best guitar things I have ever heard in my [F#m] life.
And I've constantly told Steve, this is the best buddy.
I said, when we record that song, you should take this, this cassette and [E] do the [D] same [B] solo on there.
He [A] didn't, but [D] oh my God, to me, the solo [A] on, on that first jam [F#m] when he was 19 [D] is better than the solo on the first.
We're going to have a lot more [F#m] from Bobby Kimball talking about the old total stuff and his brand new album, which is going to be released on Cleopatra records in the US on March 31st.
It's called We're Not in Kansas Anymore.
I'll also be doing a review on the album.
It's his best solo album yet.
You just, when you think it's just like total, just when you think that they're going to downshift a little bit and kind of coast [Bm] because they've been doing what they do for so many [F#m] years.
Total [F#] releases total 14 couple of years [D] ago, their best, one of their best albums in years.
And I think this [F#m] is Bobby's best album as well.
So everyone's happy.
I'm glad they're shaking hands.
I'm glad they're getting along.
As I, as I told Bobby in the interview, I don't think anybody, unless you're a jerk, I don't think anybody wants them to fight.
People want them to get along.
And of course I've reported this, but total is working on a big 40th anniversary album.
They've unearthed some tracks, four or five [G] tracks in the studio that they're going to finish [D] that they had in the vaults.
It looks like Jeff [Bm] Picarro will probably be on some of those [G] songs and we're going to talk to Steve Lucas there a little later on and get [D] some updates.
Steve, you promised me some interviews.
Anyway, we're going to [G] be talking to him a little later on.
We [D] want to know what's happening with the total album as well.
So it's so exciting.
[Bm] Total doing shows [G] really, really a few this year [D] and mostly festival shows.
[A] And of course, a big tour the following year.
So it's a good [F#m] time to be a total fan.
