Thank you so much.
On a song like that, you can really hear some of those Floyd Kramer [C#] slip notes coming through.
You know, Granddad described his slip note sound by saying it's like you hit the wrong note first, and then you slip up to the right note.
And it's sort of funny to describe it that way, but that's exactly what it is.
It's sort of like, you know a sound that a fiddle makes?
Of [B] course, these aren't fiddles.
These are violins here.
But if they had fiddles, they could show you that a fiddle, you can just [A#]
slide that note from one to the other.
Or like a steel guitar, the same thing.
You can just slide from one note to the next.
Or like he said, it's like the sound that comes from Mother Mabel Carter's auto harp, where it's almost like two notes sort of glancing off of each other.
And if you, you know, really break it down, like if I took a song like Blue Eyes Crying [G] in the Rain, and I took away the Floyd Kramer slip notes, it would sound like this.
[C] [G]
And so Granddad added two things that really made it so unique.
One was that little, you know, mistake and correction.
You add that in and it sounds like this.
You hear that?
Then he added one more thing too, and that was this harmony note right above the melody.
And when you couple that with that mistake and correction, it sounds like this.
[C] [G]
You hear that?
It sounds, it becomes [F] Floyd Kramer, you know, that quickly.
It's that little simple change in how the melody is played that made his style so unique and made, you know, his style so beloved among fans and listeners,
and also made other artists want him to be a part of their big hit records because of what he could add to a song with that little simple change.
I'll play for you now one of my very favorite songs, and this is Granddad's arrangement of a song I feel like some of you here in Georgia might be partial to.
It's called Georgia On My Mind.
