Hey guys, it's Carl Brown from Guitar Lessons 365.com.
[Gm] Today we've got a quick one today, an easy [E] one.
We're going to learn how to play [F] Blister in the Sun by the Violent [D] Femmes.
Alright, so we're in standard tuning here.
[F] I'm going to show you this opening [G] lick, the [Em] main guitar part, and that little instrumental section.
[Am] Alright, so let's take a look at it here.
[G] We're going to start here with the [C#] main lick.
We're going to [G] start 3rd fret on the low E string, [C] to the 2nd fret on the 5th [G] string, [C] back to the 3rd fret on the low [G] E.
Then, [Am] I like to [D] use my 3rd finger here on this [C] 3rd fret on the A string, down [B] to that 2 [Bm] on the 5, [G] back down to the 3rd fret on the low E string.
[Bm] Back to the 2 on the A string, [G] back to the 3 on the low E.
[C]
[G] [B] [G]
[C] And then back 3-2 on the A string.
[B]
So [G] far,
[C] [G] [B]
[C] [B] from [E] there, back to the low E, [G] the 3rd fret, [B] back to the 2nd on the A string, [Em] [G] back to the 3rd fret on the low E.
[C]
And then 3 [B]-2 [G]-3.
So it's just 3 [D] notes.
You just got to [F] really know the melody, and it's really [Am] easy to kind of work out which note happens when.
[F] But I'll play through them all really slow here, so you can follow [G] along.
[C]
[B] [G] [B]
[C] [B] [G]
[C] [G]
And then just kill the [F#] strings.
[C] [A] [G] And then, same riff.
[Fm] Alright, now the main guitar [C#] kind of part during the song comes in.
[G]
Alright, so that all [Dm] happens on the B and the [G] G string.
Start with those two strings open, and then the 3rd [F] fret on the B, 4th fret on the [G] G.
Back to the open strings.
Then the [C] 5th fret on both [Am] the B and the G together.
Back [C] down to the 3 [B] and the 4, [Em] [Bm] and the open.
So [G] it's [C] back to 3 [G]-4, and open, and [C] 5.
[G]
[Em] [G] [F] So once again, it's just three different chords.
[Em] Two open strings, the [F] 3 and the 4, and the two 5s.
And just [C] use your ear really to kind of follow the melody.
[G] [C]
[G]
[C] [G]
[C] [G] [F#]
[F] There's some [Gm] muting in between those chords.
[G]
[F#] Alright, then we have the chorus, [D] which sounds like this.
[Em] So
[C]
[Em]
[C] [D]
I hope you know those chords.
It's basic [C#m] open position chords.
[Em] E minor, the C major, [C]
back to the E minor, [Em]
back to C, [C] and then D.
[D]
Then back to [G] the
[C] [G]
[F#]
[C#] Alright, now we have that little [C] instrumental part where [F] the bass [B] player gets a little run there.
[C] [C#m] And it sounds like [G] this.
Alright, [F] so basically we have that riff that [C#] we started with, the main [G] riff.
Basically the [C] chord version [G] of it.
[C#] Done [G] twice.
[C] [C#] The bass player does his little thing.
And then [D#] you come in with just these [C#] three strings.
[G] 3rd fret on the high E, open B, and open G.
Strum those.
[C] Then [C#] back to [G] the
You pause and jump up [F] to the 12th fret, [C] and put your finger, whatever finger you want to use,
across [F] the 12th fret, just right above the fret, to [Dm] get these harmonics of the D [G] and the G string.
So it's a 3rd and 4th string together.
[C] Alright, then he gets that little quiet build up part, and then the whole band comes [E] back in [G] with the chorus.
[F] Alright, I hope you guys enjoyed it.
Pretty simple guitar parts, [G] except for maybe
Gotta be kinda accurate with your picking there, so there's only two strings you need to be [F#] hitting.
Alright, [C] I hope you enjoyed it.
I'll see you again soon for Guitar Lessons 365.com.
Bye bye.
