January the [Abm] 27th, 1983, Billy Fury worked late into the [G] evening on the songs for [F] his latest comeback.
The following day, Lisa [E] left him [Gb] to sleep on, [A] but Billy Fury [D] never woke.
The king of rock and roll [E] ballads had died aged just 42 [D] years old.
[F] [A] The world of pop music would never [Eb] find another Billy.
[F]
Play it cool, [A] baby
[C] Why don't you play it [Em] cool?
[Gm]
[A] Don't you [D] forget [C] that golden [Am] rule
I heard the news [G] about Billy dying, it was actually when [Bb] I was at work.
My wife phoned me [A] up [Bb] and I said, you know, she [A] kept on saying to me,
you know what I'm saying, don't you, Billy's dead?
I said, no, [E] can't be.
I rang Lisa [D] to find that Jesse had died in the night, you know.
[Gb] So, and then everybody piled round to my flat [E] to sort of, we had a wait.
Ev came round, Elton came [D] round, everybody came round, you know, [Eb] we just all had a wait for Billy.
[C] When he went, there [Bb] was nobody [Gbm] to fill his place.
[Ab] He was there, [G]
[Ab] he was the man, [G]
and when he left us, [F] there was no [G] more man left.
Such a [B] bad time, [Ab] you know, I mean, [Em]
it's one of those things [C] that takes a lot [B] to sink in.
[F]
I [A] blame people around him for him dying so young, to be [Dm] truthful.
He was pushed a lot, [Ab] I think.
I think he pushed him a lot, too much.
If people [Bb] hadn't been so [A] interested in just grabbing money,
[Abm] [G]
it would have lasted [Bb] a lot longer, a lot more longer.
[Eb] And give us a lot more music and a lot more memories, [E] [C] you know.
[B]
[Gb] [Dm] But [C] [B] can't do nothing about that now, can [Cm] we?
[B] All we can do is play his music and keep his memory alive, and we're going to do that [F] forever.
[Bb] I'll show you a valley that [Eb]
stays evergreen
[Bb]
A heaven that [F]
you have never seen
The Fan Club also [B] helped to drive, in fact we did drive and [Bb] coordinate the Bronze Statue project.
On the 20th [C] anniversary, it was in place [Bb] in Liverpool in [Eb] 2003.
[Bb] The Fans, [E] they've all [Cm] became friends over the years.
[E] [G] We have [Ab] meetings now at the [Eb] statue because the Fans [C] raised the money for the [Gm] statue.
[Bb] I'll show you the world
Behind me is the [D] statue of Billy Fury at the Museum of Liverpool Life.
[Bb] It was donated by the Friends [D] of Billy Fury, [Em] and it's become [Bb] a place of pilgrimage
where they [Ab] can come and lay flowers on special dates, the anniversary of his death [Dm] or his birthday.
[F] And of course it's just been moved, [Bb] it's now out on the pier head in the fresh air.
And I'm sure Billy is quite happy to be looking towards where there's hug boats, where he used to [Gm] work on.
[Bb] We actually do a Billy Fury medley in the show.
[G] You mentioned Billy Fury.
[A] The place erupts.
Decker may have [Gb] missed out on the Beatles and [Ab] that will go down in history, but [G] we did sign Billy Fury.
He's left us with some great [Bb] memories.
[D]
He's left us with some great [Gm] songs.
And he's left us remembering what I like [C] to think was just a great era.
[B] It was a very, [Eb] very exciting era.
[Ab]
Unbelievable man.
[F] [Bb] And I still love him, [Eb] still miss him.
[Bb] Always will.
[Eb]
[Bb]
I
[Am] [D]
found a place for a child, a house, a magic world in my baby's arms.
[Am] A soft and breezy [F] place, a [E] [Dm] wondrous [C] place.
Watch [D] a spot in the sky, huddle up and [Am] stay night [E] and warm.
[C] Away from home in my baby's [E] arms, a [Am] wondrous place.
[D] Man, [Dm] I [A] blow [D] air when [Am] I'm anywhere else.
[D] But [G] I don't [F] get everything right when she holds me [A] tight.
[D]
you're not around
[F]
Searching all over,
[G] you can't be [C] found
And in the evening, [Am] by the moonlight
[F] I'll hold you darling, [G] I'll hold you tight
[F]
[G] [F] I love you baby, [C]

[G] Maybe [C] tomorrow,
[Am] [F]
[G] there'll be no [C]

[Am] [F]
[G] Maybe [C]
tomorrow, [Am]
[F] [G] maybe
[C] tomorrow
[Am]
Maybe [F]
