Something that makes me proud to be British is the [G] Leveson Inquiry.
[N] So I don't need to go into details, but there is one thing I would like to, I feel I should point out to you.
There's one group of [F] people who must take [G] some share of the blame.
Obviously some of our [Gb] journalists, not all of them, by all means, it was a [F] journalist, Nick Davis,
who kept doggedly at this issue of phone hacking, [G] even when his own editor was starting to wonder about it.
Our police officers who [Ab] refused to investigate, who were that close to [F] News International anyway,
were advising News International.
[N] And of course our politicians of all political parties, who, you know, our Prime Minister tweeted the editor,
the managing director of News International, he tweeted her.
I mean, exactly.
I don't know if you've read this, that he used to end his tweets L-O-L.
And she had to point out that L-O-L didn't mean lots of love, it meant laugh out loud.
I mean, that's just crazy, isn't it?
Our Prime Minister.
Jesus.
Unbelievable.
Anyway, but there's another group of people who must share some of the blame.
And those are the people who made the News of the World, which was the newspaper that hacked the phone messages
of an abducted girl who was murdered.
To find out more of the story, the News of the World subsequently closed down.
The readers of the News of the World, they must share some blame in this,
because they were the people who made the News of the World the biggest-selling English-language Sunday newspaper in the world.
Because they loved that kind of kiss-and-tell story that News of the World was able to do,
because they were hacking [Db] people's phones.
There's only one group of people, I would argue, who could hold their head [F] high,
and that is the people of [Ab] Liverpool, who have been boycotting the News International [N] newspaper.
The Sun, which is the daily newspaper, the daily tabloid newspaper,
which [F] was the group of murderers that the Sun reported lies.
Well, it wasn't reported at all, it was absolute lies about the behaviour of supporters of Liverpool Football Club.
It's a terrible, terrible incident where [Fm] 96 [Eb] people lost their lives at a soccer match,
[C] when a barrier failed, some doors [Bbm] were open, and people were crushed to [C] death.
Since that event, people from Liverpool, who we refer [G] to as Scousers,
they have boycotted News [Fm] International, and they have been kind enough not to say,
told you so, which they have every right to.
And [F] this is kind of what this song is about, it's called Scousers Never Buy [C] a Sign.
[G]
[A] [C] [G]
[Am] [C]
Someone's hiding [G] in the bushes [A] with a [C] telephone throwing
[F] While they're headed to the [Em] shores then, [D] the means [G] justifies the ends
Because we only hunt celebrities, [B] it's all a [C] bit of fun
[Dm] But the Scousers [G] never buy the Sun
[B] [C] While the parents [Em] of the missing girl [A] cling desperately [G] to hope
The copper [Em] takes improper [D] payments in a thick [G] brown envelope
[C] And no one [G] in the newsroom [A] asks where's [G] this headline from
[F] But the [G] Scousers never [C] buy the Sun
[G]
[F] Sabots [Dm] make their money [G] betting bullshit baffles brains
[D] And they cynically [G] hold up their hands [C] if anyone complains
And [F] they say all we're [Em] doing is giving people [A] what they want
[G] But they're crying out for justice, people crying out for justice
And [C] the man they [G] called the Digger [A] casts a proprietary [G] eye
[F] Over what happens [E] in the gutter, [D] what goes [G] on in the sky
And he claims he's fit and proper, [A] but watch [G] dog sings his song
[Dm] But the [G] Scousers never [C] buy the Sun
[G] International executives they hang their heads in shame
[F] But the tillers [Em] sweep their hands on hearts, [D] the paper [G] boys to blame
But you who love that can kiss and tell, [Dm] you must spare [G] some guilt as [Dm] well
The [G] Scousers never buy the Sun
[F] Sabots make their [G] millions betting bullshit baffles brains
[D] And they cynically [G] hold up their hands if [C] anyone [Dm] complains
And they say all we're [Em] doing is giving people [A] what they want
[G] But they're crying out for justice, people crying out for justice
[C] In the corridors [G] of power [A] they all sit [C] down to sob
[F] With the Devil and his [Em] minions
[D] They [G] ask for his opinions and the politicians
Wring their [A] hands and cry [G] what's to be done
[F] The [G] Scousers never [C] buy the Sun
[G]
No one comes out looking [A] good when [G] all is said and done
[F] But the Scousers [G] never buy the [C] Sun
[G] [N]
