Billie Eilish - “What Was I Made For?” (Behind the Scenes) chords
Start Jamming...
I really wanted it to feel like how the old Barbies looked.
I didn't grow up on the old Barbies obviously, but they're just the coolest thing [Em] in the world.
Vintage Barbie is [F] like some of the coolest stuff ever.
What was I [Am] made for?
[E] [C]
[Bb] Yeah, it was really fun to [C] like make the mood board [Em] for it.
Like I just pictured [F] desk, chair, [C] sage green, blonde, ponytail, yellow [Em] outfit.
And the [F] dress is perfect.
My mom's mom, [C] who I never met, my grandma, [Em] she used to make clothes for [F] my mom.
And they were very cute.
And a couple [Am] of them she still [Em] had when I was a kid and I would wear [F] them and they were
like
[Am] just the sweetest [Dm] little, you know, cute little square with buttons, [G] mod dresses.
And I was [C] picturing those, oh it should shape first like [F] this little earthquake and then
it should be windy and then it should be [C] rain.
[Em] [F]
What was I [Am] made for?
[E] [F]
Part of what's hard about [C] directing [E] is, especially [F] when you're someone like me that like I don't
know much about [C] cameras.
I just have these ideas [Em] and I think that [F] I know how to [Cm] execute them.
More hitting the hair.
Just so that I'm like [C] struggling more and like have [Em] more to do, you know.
The [F] initial verse is great though, but then right [Cm] after that, just having just [Em] more dynamics.
Yeah, move it around.
Thanks [F] guys.
And I knew I wanted it to be one shot.
[C] And that was an [Em] issue to begin with.
Especially when you're [F] like I want there to be wind and then I want it to rain all over
[Am] me and I want to be wearing a really intricate wig
[F] and have a bunch of little [C] miniature clothes.
[Em] And [Dm] then talk to Pat, great to meet.
He [G] really nailed what I was telling him.
I was like, okay, I want [C] it to feel really gritty.
We were [Em] talking 16 [F] millimeter.
I don't know if that's going to be even gritty enough.
I [C] think it will be.
If it's a one take or [F] similar to a one take, I'll [A] do my own [C] version in the yard and the
[Em] verse is [F] stupid.
And I made a little [C] mock up of how I wanted them.
[Em] [F]
All the [Am] camera movements are specific to the lyrics.
[Em] And then a big note was like, [F] I didn't want the camera to be moving around or following
me [C] if I go off screen or whatever, because the [E] camera is just [F] filming and I happen to be there.
So if something [C] blows off the table and I run off [Em] off screen to get it,
[F] the camera doesn't [G] even notice.
I don't know.
[C] I don't [Em] [F]
[C]
[Em] know, [F]
[C] just thought of [Em] the ones that I feel have [F] been the most seen [Am] that the fans
were drawn to the most.
[Em] Or the [F] ones from big moments in my life.
[Em] So the bellyache [Dm] one.
The Grammys outfit when the party's over with [G] the black, the crown, the lovely outfit, [C] this
little yellow camo [Em] outfit that I wore a bunch.
[F] The bad guy yellow outfit, like Dapper Dan [C] looks from SNL.
One of the first shirts that I ever sold, [F] which was really cute.
All the little [A] shoes.
There's the little [C] choker that I wore [Em] in the Vanity Fair video.
[F] It was hard though, because there's so many that we could [C] have put in, but we could only
do like [F] a certain amount.
[C] You know, [Em] [Bb]
[C] [F] it's all these past versions of myself that are me and they're also not me
because [F] they're different versions of me, but they'll always be [C] me.
And it's just, [Fm] I mean, thinking about your life and the [Am] present and the past and the
future is a [F] scary and [E] gut-wrenching thing to do.
[Dm]
Something I'm [G] made for.
Yay!
[Bb] I think we have [N] it guys!
