You hear [N] the news about Lowell.
What did that do?
Well, the wheels fell off before then.
They fell off years before then because we kept
We kept I thought we really could have whether we were super bad or not
We could have done what you were talking about, which is really in it and hit it hard and become huge
Lowell would take two steps up five steps back three steps up one step back
Boom boom not taking anything away from his genius, but he was screwed up.
I mean much in a way Jerry Garcia was
If you read a book on a called Garcia
It explains those exact times
That everybody was living through plus we weren't that stable ourselves as a band.
We were all going through just
You know bouncing off the walls.
I met John Belushi
So I was asked to be in the Blues Brothers movie and I and talking to Johnny I
Couldn't do it
But later they asked me to play the rat party at Universal Studios in Los Angeles
Which I did says you got any requests at the soundcheck.
I go.
Yeah walking the dog and then
but decked on and
Steve Cropper showed me the proper way to play Green Onions
And so in the midst of all this blue she comes up to me later says Billy
You know one day I'd love to do the Lowell George story
Well, he did it, but he did it off-camera
You know, he died the same way lol did speedballs just hit his heart down
There are two amazing amazing people
Belushi could have played lol Jack black could probably play lol this day and age who knows but
Yeah, you're playing a wonderfully charismatic
Figure and ultimately a very tragic one.
What did that do to you when you heard that news?
Well, I was angry and my my way of dealing with it was to say
Does lol have any insurance on his children and family and I called up the accountants now
We're gonna do a concert
So I arranged a concert which we did at the forum
And we had Bonnie Emmylou
I mean a bunch of people come up here and help us sold out in two hours 18,000 people, you know
It was our effort to help
lol family and
That's kind of the way I would think about things
I mean, obviously it's I was there to kind of help steer the ship all those those times
[B] I could not compete with these these fellows
on the level of
Diverse things you're entering into your body at that time.
I thought man.
I must be a real wimp
WMP
William Payne, but it
Turned out I was lucky but it was also, [F] you know
Whatever destiny we have that's that's what my destiny was was to to live through it and hopefully tell the tale
