Hey, I'm Mike Weaver from Big Daddy Weave, and this is the story behind our song, Redeemed.
I've struggled a lot in my life with the issues of personal acceptance and self-worth.
During a really low point in that struggle, I remember being down in my garage, which
is kind of my man cave, the place where I do all my thinking and I work out down there.
It was like the Holy Spirit just invaded that space and said,
Mike, why don't you let me tell you what I think about you?
Why don't you let me share with you the way that I see you?
I was an absolute broken heap on the floor of my garage as the God of the universe began
to show me in my heart and in my mind how He sees me and share with me the way that
He feels about me.
That changed something in my life that day.
God redefined humility for me.
I had always thought that [G#m] humility was this self [F#]
-deprecating [B] thing, but God showed me
that what real humility [G#m] is, is [F#] simply agreeing [B] with whatever He [E] says about anything.
Over my life as a child of God, as [B] someone who has been ransomed by the blood of Jesus,
when He looks at me, He says, Redeemed.
Those that lived in my past, bound in shackles of all my failures, wondering how long is
this gonna last?
Then [G#m] you look at this [F#] prisoner [B] and say to me, son, stop [G#m]
fighting [F#] a fight that's [B] already been [E] won.
I am [B] redeemed.
[D#m] You set me free.
So [B] I'll shake off these heavy chains and wipe [F#] away every stain.
[G#m] I'm not [F#] who I used [E] to be.
I am [B]
redeemed.
I'm [E] redeemed.
[B]
[B] All my life I [F#] have been called [E] unworthy,
[B]
[F#] named by the voice of my shame and [E] regret.
[B] [C#]
But [G#m] when I hear you [F#] whisper, [B] child, lift up your [E] head, I [G#m] remember, oh [F#] God, you're [B] not
done with me
[F#] [E] yet.
And I [B] am redeemed.
[F#]
You set [B] me free.
So I'll shake off these heavy chains [F#] and wipe away every stain.
[G#m] Now I'm not [F#] who I used [E] to be.
Because [G#m]
I don't have to be [G] the old man inside of me.
[B] His days [F#] long dead [E] end long.
Because [G#m]
I've got a new name, [G] a new life, I'm not the same, [B] and a hope that will carry [E] me home.
I am [B]
redeemed.
You set me
[E] free.
So I'll shake off these heavy chains and wipe [F#] away every stain.
[G#m] Because I'm not [F#] who I used [B] to be.
I am redeemed.
[F#]
You set [B] me free.
So I'll shake off these heavy chains [F#] and wipe away every stain.
[G#m] Now I'm not [F#] who I used [B] to be.
Oh [G#m] God, I'm not [F#] who I [B] used to be.
Jesus, I'm not [F#] who I [B] used to [E] be.
Because I am redeemed.
Thank God, redeemed.
