This is a tune I wrote a few years ago when I was in university and I hadn't played it
in a [Bm] number of years but given the context of the student strike in Montreal I thought
I'd play this tune in solidarity with the Montreal students.
Well my feet are tired [A] and my back is sore and [G] my body's aching and [A] my hands are raw
and [Bm] my eyes are drowsy [A] and my mouth is dry [G] and I feel so alive that I [F#] could almost die
[Bm] cause my pocket's a-crafting from [A] the rent so steep and [G] my arms are shaking from the
lack of [Bm] sleep and my mind is melting [A] at my blistered birth but [G] my thrill is endless [F#] cause
nothing could be [G] worse so I drop to my knees [D] and give thanks to the lord [A] for the rising
tuition I [D] can barely afford [G] I'm so happy to live [D] in the land of the free [A] to pay high tuition
[Bm] so I can succeed I got a class in the morning I gotta [A] study at noon [G] I gotta work in the
evening [A] and an essay to be [Bm] soon I gotta test on the moral and [A] a quiz in an [G] hour and a bill
of renewal [F#] for the phone and the [Bm] power I gotta a girl who's upset [A] yeah she thinks I'm a jury
[G] but I canceled our plans and [A] called in for work and [Bm] my heart is breaking as [A] a faith might
occur [G] but my thrill is endless [F#] cause nothing could be worse [G] so I drop to my knees [D] and give thanks to the lord [Em] for [A] the rising tuition [D] I can barely afford I'm so happy to live in the land of the free [A]
to pay high tuition [Bm] so I can succeed
tonight [E] when my bike [A] drives right up to my [G] door I will climb up the [A] stairs and look forward to more
[Bm] the clock in the kitchen reads [A] a quarter to three [G] now tomorrow is today in [F#] the land of the [Bm] free
so I climb into bed and I [A] try to forget [G] that from summer I'll work three [A] jobs just to pay down my debt
[Bm] the bank thank god I'm no slave [A] I'll remember that verse [G] and my grin will be endless [E] cause it [F#] could
worse [G] and I will drop to my knees [D] and give thanks to the lord [A] for the rising tuition [D] I can barely afford
because I'm glad that I get to turn hair on the chest [A] and I get to build [D] character
passing this test all [G] I'm so happy to live [D] in the land of the free [A] free to pay high tuition [Bm] so I can [N] succeed
in a [Bm] number of years but given the context of the student strike in Montreal I thought
