We lost a friend of ours on Monday of this week and
He's the son of Roanoke.
He grew up in Roanoke right here
right amongst you and
He moved out west a long time ago.
I don't even know how long ago
but that's where he had his kids and raised his kids and he was a doctor and
His name's Ben Bullington
Ending the set we want to
End with a song that Ben wrote
He's a man that I admire
you know, we [F] have singer-songwriter friends me and Tim and
There's very few people
Who hold down another job while being the singer-songwriter
In the privacy of their own room writing the songs that they feel like writing and so they don't have any kind of commercial
Thing
on them they just get to write freely because sometimes when you do this for a living you [F#] can sort of think that
What you do and what you write is being watched in sort of some way that really isn't
important at all to the the creative process and
Ben figured this out
from what I understand he was an ER doctor and
Working all night long and it would get slow there in white sulfur Springs, Montana
And he would work on songs and the way I see it is he wrote them the way he wanted to he didn't have to
How to anything [F] other than his own?
[D] inspiration and I
got to know Ben in the last few years of his life and
We [E] thought it was absolutely appropriate [G] to do a song [N] of Ben's here tonight
And I thought it'd be good to end this set with it.
He just spent the last year as a singer-songwriter
He quit the ER when he found that he had a terminal
Cancer and he spent that last year
Traveling around as best he could
Doing his songs.
He comes from Roanoke right here amongst you Ben Bullington.
