Right, [A] we don't do this song very often because it makes us cry, [G] but I wrote a song with my
mate Luke E.
Austin.
I think Luke was here earlier and we had, [N] I just knew that I needed
somebody to help me finish this song.
I got to a certain point with it and every time
I would go to write the rest of it, [F#] I would burst into tears and I knew I needed somebody
with [Am] sensitivity, with amazing creative mind [G] and amazing musical talent to aim at the knowledge
of Australia and its people and Luke E.
Austin was my man and we had an afternoon with a
break for a beer and we wrote this [C#m] song.
It was about a friend of mine, Becky [A#] Cannon,
who just drove up to Tamworth.
She got here today, right, with her lovely family [G] and this
song's about her and it's [C] about the strength of one woman.
[G#] She's pretty amazing and I don't
want to embarrass you, Beck, by [N] telling everybody how amazing you are, but you are.
I met Beck
shortly after the Tamworth Festival last year when I went to Whittlesea to the Country
Music Festival there.
Awesome event, if you get down [A] to it, it's just fantastic.
Shaping
up to be another good one this year.
Beck's one of the [G] organisers of the event and when
I first saw her, and we had met before, but we hadn't sort of really got to know each
other, when I first saw her, she's got the most amazing artwork on her arm, a beautiful
tattoo, and I was kind of staring at it and I read the words that were on it and I realised
that she'd lost some pretty important people.
And I guessed by the artwork that she'd lost
her kids.
And I kind of grabbed her wrist and I said, you're the strongest chick I've
ever met.
And she said, how would you know?
And I said, [N] because you're still here.
And
[G] I learnt shortly after that that Beck and Ross had lost two of their four kids in the
Victorian fires a couple of years [E] ago, coming up to three years ago now.
[Am] And Beck also lost
her brother Danny, all together in one house.
And [E] she's the most inspiring woman, as I said,
that I've ever come across.
And I wrote this song and it could only [N] be part of one thing.
It could be [E] titled Australian Woman and it's about Beck.
[G]
Australian woman, look at you now
Putting the pieces [D] together, surviving [G] somehow
Australian woman, I'd rather let go
No one would blame your surrender
To be under control
Australian woman, clinging to you like a shadow
It holds its own wheel
Pain won't stop you believing
It's courage of ten [C] thousand men
And you don't need this pity we're feeling
[Em] You want life to be living [G] again
Oh, Australian woman
Your love, the [C] heart, the soul
[G] Oh, Australian woman
Family's true cornerstone
The softest touch [C] of the strongest hand
[G] A wife, a mother, a friend
Australian woman, look at you now
[D]
[G] Australian woman
[C] Look at your [G] smile
Teaching me all the forgiveness
This time he's his wife
[C] Australian [G] woman
A devil like you
May be a world we made
A step to walk through
[C] Australian woman
[D] You keep me calm
[G] I wonder could I find the spirit
You're showing [G] me now
And last year may still never fall
But autumn leaves won't [C] find the wind
And just like the land that [G] you live on
True colours come back again
Oh, [C] Australian woman
[G] Your love, the heart, [C] the soul
[G] Oh, Australian woman
Family's true [C] cornerstone
The softest [G] touch of the strongest hand
A wife, a mother, a friend [C] Australian [G] woman
Look at your smile
Australian woman
[C] Look at you now
[N]
