Hi everybody, this is Mickey Adams with Mullen Pedal Steel Guitars in Dallas, Texas.
Thank you for tuning in.
In this lesson we're going to look at a turn from the 5 chord to the 1 chord or a
resolution from the 5 chord to the 1 [Bb] chord.
We're going to be [Fm] in the position C here at 8
or we're going to start in position 10 with the A and B pedals and we're going to look at how we can alter [B] this G chord
from G
major to G7 to G9 to G7 and then resolve it back into the C chord either at position number 3
with the A and B pedals or at position number 8 open
with strings number
[F] 4 and 6.
Here's the phrase that we're going to look at.
[C] [G] [Dm]
[B]
All right, let's move to position number 10 with the A and B pedal.
On the bottom of this G chord we have a third tone
[Gb] which would be a B note.
I can suspend this B note to the fourth [C] tone
[Bm] and resolve it with the bar.
This is where we're going to start.
From here, we're going to strike 8, 7 and [F] 6 and slide down two frets.
With the B pedal still engaged, we're going to have a [F] dominant seventh,
[Bb] we're going to have a third, but we're going to have [C] a suspended fourth still here.
A ninth [Am] tone A
with pedal number A
and a suspended fourth here a C which we're going [F] to resolve with the E lever
by lowering the string number 8.
[Eb]
[Abm] So what we have [G] here is the suspension.
We've [Bm] already resolved.
We're implying G6.
[Bm]
[F] By moving this G6 down a whole step, we're implying a G7 with a suspension
on [C] string number 8.
[E] We have a 9 here, [G] which we're going to resolve to the root with the A pedal [Cm] and
then suspended fourth here, which we're going to [Em] resolve with the E lever.
And then we're going to use a simple walk down
[Bb] [B]
which [Dm] diatonically would be 4 3 2 [B] 1.
In the key of C of [F] course, this would be F,
[C] E minor, D [B] minor, C.
These are the chords that we're implying.
So let's look at the phrase.
[Cm] [Bm]
[F] [G]
[F] [G] Notice that I haven't blocked [Cm] any of this.
If we were going to block it,
[E] [G]
[Em] [C] we could make it very staccato, but in this case since all of the tones that we're playing
[Cm] apply to the chord and the structure of the chord, it's okay to leave them ringing because they just add fullness to the phrase.
[Am] [G] We're going to block here before we do our 4 3 2 1 move.
[D] [C] 4
[Bb] [C]
[B] Okay, ready?
Let's move to position number 11.
A and D pedals down.
Strike string 10.
Strike 8 7 6.
[D] [F] Slide down to position 8.
Strike string 5.
[G] Raise the A pedal.
[Cm] Strike string [B] 4 and lower it with the D lever.
[Abm] [C]
[Bm] [D] [G]
[Bm]
[G] [C] [G]
Now [B] we're going to grab strings 3 and 5
[F] to press the A and B [Bb] pedals on them.
Release [C] them.
Move to [Bb] 6.
Now we can either [Bm] resolve with 3 and 5 at position 3 with the A and B pedals
[B] or straight with strings 4 and 6 at position 8.
Same notes.
[G]
[Dm] [G]
[Bb] [B]
Thanks for tuning in [C] everybody.

Strike 8 7 6.

[Cm] Strike string [B] 4 and lower it with the D lever.
[Abm] [C]

[Bm]
