[N] What's going on everybody?
This is your boy J Phil.
Today's video is based off a question I got talking about sampling 33 versus sampling
at 45 RPM.
Now, you can see this turntable here is Numark.
For those who keep asking me questions, what do I use?
This is a Numark TT USB turntable.
All right, so let's get into this.
You have 33 and you have 45.
33 is usually played for those 12 inch records.
And then 45s are usually for those smaller 7 inch records.
Now 33 plays at a regular speed.
45 is at a faster speed.
So the question was, how do you tune a record that's sampled at 45 to sound like 33 and
detune it on your drum machine?
I'm going to get into that.
So [Em] let's listen to the sample.
This is at 33.
[Ebm] [Gb] [C]
[Bm] [E] [Bb] [Eb] [N]
So I sampled that and now I'm going to play it again, except this time we're going to
use 45 and also change the pitch.
You see this little pitch knob right here?
I'm going to increase it by 8%, all right?
So it's going to be extra fast.
Here we go.
Sampling at this speed [E] now.
[Am]
[Fm] [A] [Dm] [D]
One sample, two different [B] speeds.
Here's [Gb] 33 RPM.
[Fm] [Bb]
All [Bm] right, here's 45 [C] RPM.
[B] [E] Okay, so now what I want to [B] happen is I want 45 to have this [Bbm] same [Gb] sound as 33, okay?
Now what's the purpose of this?
Well, 45 [N] supposedly is supposed to be a more grittier sounding.
So if you sample at 45 RPM, it's going to sound grittier.
But here's the dilemma.
I still want it to stay [Gb] at this original key, right?
[N] So how do we do that?
You tune it.
Here we go.
I am on my parameters [Em] page, all right?
[N] Now you see this tune zero?
Use your ears and match it, [C] okay?
[Ab] I want to get this sound.
[Am] [Ebm] [G] So use your ears.
Let's see.
[Bbm] Nope, that's [Bm] original.
[Gb] I'm trying to match.
Let's see.
[G] Nope.
[Gb] [Bbm] [F]
[Gb] Too low.
[Bb] [Bbm] [E] Okay, [Gb] here's original.
[B] Here's [Gb] the 45.
Bam.
That's pretty close.
[G] Here's the 45.
Now, can you hear the difference?
[Bbm] Y'all let me know.
Can y'all really hear the difference?
Here's the original.
[F] [Bbm] All right, now here's the [Gb] 45.
[Bbm] [Gb] All right, they're pretty close.
I think if I had to say a difference, the 45 is a little filtered sounding, just a little
bit, which makes it sound a little dirtier.
Original.
Can y'all hear the difference?
[Ab] It's a little crispier, [Gb] original.
But then, so I just put it to the test.
33.
45.
Let's play both of them together.
[Db] [F] [Bbm]
[Em] [Gb]
[Db] [Bbm] So you [G] got like a nice little chorus effect.
Y'all might want to try that as a tip.
That's pretty cool.
[Gb]
[B] [Bb]
[Eb] All [E] right, so that's basically it.
I guess try [N] it at home, have fun.
I'm going to make a beat using this one.
I've been talking about websites and things that I'm doing this year.
Now, the reason why I'm doing this website is to answer more questions because I cannot
answer everyone's question on this channel.
So I'm using a different avenue to do that.
So come over to that.
I will let you know when it's done.
I'm going to go ahead and say March.
March.
Look for this launch, this website launch.
Your boy, Jay Field, it will be up by March.
And also, if you are interested to become a member and you'll have like freebies and
stuff, I'm going to be giving away.
You'll become part of a VIP list.
Just send me your email, man.
Just send.
You can message me.
Let me know if you're interested, man.
And then we're going to go from there.
A lot of good things coming.
So, peace.
