[A] [Em] [E]
[D] [D]
[E] [Gb] How's it going everybody?
I'm Brian Rashap and my good buddy Marty Schwartz from GuitarJams.com
invited me in to do a few bass lessons for you.
So we're going to start with bass lesson number one.
Okay, [Bb] so here we go.
This is bass lesson and groove number one, numero uno.
It is in the key
of A, which for us is going to be reciting on the [A] fifth fret of the E string, right down here,
this old buddy, Thiccy.
[B] And it actually, a little secret here, the bass [Bb] groove consists of the exact
same thing over and over again with a little bit of a fun little line on the turnaround, which is
the end of a blues progression.
So let's dive in here.
First note, fifth [A] fret E string.
[Bb] Second note
is going to be the fifth fret [Cm] E string again.
[A] [Bm] And this is going to be kind of the theme you're
going to see here.
[Bb] Every note is going to be doubled with that.
So you're going to have,
anyways, check it out.
So it's two notes there.
The second note is going to be the seventh fret
of the D string.
Same [A] exact idea.
Okay, so you got the third note [Ab] will be the fifth fret
of the [G] D string.
[A] Same as the first two.
[G] [A]
[G] [Bb] The fourth note is going to be the seventh fret of [E] the A
string.
Let's throw that down with the [A] pinky there.
[G] [E]
Okay, you got that?
One more time.
Let's
do it a little [A] slower.
[G]
[E] [Bb] This, what we just learned right there, is the same progression for all the
chords in this [Eb] blues progression.
[Bb] So after you do that, you're going to do that four times.
It's
four bars.
So now for the second chord of the progression, you're going to go up to the fifth
fret of the A string, and you're going to do the same thing [D] in its entirety with this being your
third chord.
So same [A] [D]
[C] [A] as down here.
[G] [B] So once [D] you do that, which is really a D chord,
you're going to go [A] back to that A chord and do the same thing.
You're going to do
[Bb] that finger pattern twice.
[A] So you're going to go back down to the A there,
fifth fret [E] on the E string, and [G] do the same finger [A] pattern twice.
[G]
[E] For the third chord
in the progression, we go up to E, which is the seventh fret of the A string.
Same thing.
[D]
[Bb] We only do it once, but let me do it again for you [G] slow just in case [E] we're refreshing here.
So
[D] [E]
[D] okay, the next chord, we're going to go down to the D, which is the
fifth fret of that A string.
[C] [A] And again, that's just [E] once.
So
[B] [D]
[A] here's the only thing that's going to [Bb] be different.
We're going to go back to [A] that A
chord, that A note, the fifth fret of the E string, and we're going to do a chromatic
walk up [G] to the turnaround, which will [B] be
The next note is going to be the fourth fret of the
A [Db] string.
[A] So next [Db]
note is going to be the fifth fret of that A string, [Bb] [A] [Db]
[D] and then we're going to
slide [Eb] one up here to the sixth fret of the A string, and we're going to end it [Db] on [D]
[Eb] [E] that E,
seventh fret of the A string,
[A] [D] [Eb]
[E] and just go back to the [A] beginning of the whole thing.
[G] [E]
[A] [Em]
[D] [Am] [D] So [C]
[A] A [E] to [A] [G]
[E] the E, [D] D, [A] A, [Db] [E]
E.
And that is the whole progression.
