[Abm] Okay, we're going to record something here.
I'm going to show you [C] something about picking, about strumming.
[Abm]
Because the way that I play guitar is the way that someone who doesn't have access to
a drummer plays.
And one of the things that I've found out through my career of playing guitar is [E] that
people like to hear a drum beat.
So if you're playing guitar and you've got nobody else there, you can either play sort of [Bb] like
Or [Abm] you can play with a bit of a drum beat.
And I like to play a drum beat [N] because I like thumping stuff.
So I came up with this stuff [A] to try [Abm] and get around the lack of drums.
And it basically, if I damp the strings, to give you an idea of what sort of a strumming
pattern it sounds like.
So it's kind of [E] like
If I sneak that with my mic, it's like
It sounds something like this.
[Am] [Abm] [D]
[A]
[E] [A]
[Dbm] [A]
[E] [A]
[Am] [E] So [A]
[Db] you get the idea.
Anyway, [E] you can also do it with songs like [Ab] Funky Coleman.
[A]
[G]
[A] [E]
[A]
[Ab] [Am] [G]
[A] [G]
[A] [E] Or you can do it with [A]
songs [Em]
[A] like
[G] [A] Anyway, [Db]
so it's [E] just
Basically what you've got to do is just learn to go on the downstroke and on the upstroke
with your thumb.
So
[Db] Just like
[Gbm] that.
[E]
And up with the thumb.
Like that.
So [Db]
it looks [E] [Db] like
[N] And if you damp it correctly
And
[Db] the damping is achieved by [Ab] pressing your fingers on and lifting them off.
Further chord.
Lifting.
[A]
[Abm]
[A] That's an A.
[Abm] It's like a bastardised version of [A] an A, right?
[Abm] Should have been played like this.
[A]
[E] If you play the dirty version, it's like that.
It's [Dbm] so nuts.
It's just the dirty sort of rock and roll [A] version.
[Abm]
And then to stop it from making a noise, as soon as I've finished [A] playing the chord,
[Abm] I try to damp the E string with my thumb there by resting it [A] on.
I'm [Am] going to try not to hit [Abm] the top A, because that's not in it.
[E] [Gb] [E]
So hopefully I get [A] a sound [E]
like
[A] [Db] And then when I don't want to hear anything, I just put my fingers there.
I don't press, I'm just touching [E] them.
And I put my other fingers on too, because I don't want it to ring.
Because if you put one finger down, you'll hear
You could hear harmonics.
[A] [E] So
[A]
[E]
[A]
[Ab]
[A] [E] [A]
[E]

Anyway, hopefully you can get something out [N] of that.
