Basic Clapton Setup chords
Start Jamming...
All right, we're gonna look at the Eric Clapton setup I got my Mexican Strat
Yeah, maple neck got some locking tuners all that Seymour Duncan pickups.
I probably told you a thousand times
So what Eric Clapton likes to do is he likes to take the tremolo bridge
You know the whammy bar stuff Eddie Van Halen Jimi Hendrix with the bar
Eric Clapton doesn't use that so he does a really cool thing with his guitar
Since he doesn't use a whammy bar he takes the bridge and he lays it flat against the body
so if you notice that with a strike caster you have a
Tremolo bridge and this raises and lowers with this bar so that you can lower the pitch and raise the pitch and whatnot
Since he doesn't use it
He lays it flat against the body
Because you can set him up high when you're using the whammy bar
It makes it easier to use the whammy bar
But he doesn't use it lays it flat and the cool part about laying the bridge flat against the body
Is that the vibration from the strings?
so the
ellipsis vibration of a guitar string it travels on and petered between
the
String and metal pieces like hardware and [C] the wood and of the neck and the body
so the the vibration of the string just
sustains a little bit better if
Everything is touching
All right, so flat against the body
All right
Other thing is pick up height
All right
So with pickup height what you're measuring is the distance between the top of this magnet pole in the pickup and the bottom of the string
what we will do is we will take a measuring tool like mine and
Press down the string at the last fret see how string press I'm pressing down [B] string see it like that
[Eb] Okay, so now you take the measuring tool and see that measurement is [Ab] it's 60 fourths of an inch
What so [Eb] once these force to see for 360 force for 64 so you can reduce those however, so he
His is 1 16th of an inch so for 64 so we've got to press down and measure between the baguette pole
And bottom string we have for 64 all right now
You can raise and lower the pickup by turning this screw turn it right
Raise it up turn it left and lowers down you do this for every single pickup
[Bb] on
both the treble side and
The bass side okay the other thing you do is you set your string height so we go to the 17th fret
15 16 17 all right so at 17th fret
You want it to be
for 64ths between the top of the fret and the bottom of the string on the low Easter
measurement see there for 64
all right and on the other side on the
Treble II you want that to [G] be 360 force
So 360 force of an inch for [Ab] 60 points like this one is for see the four
And so you can't see that line where the force you line
Now you see it they go out there
There's [C] 50 force right now.
What does this do?
So when you set that at 460 force and you set the triple side at 360 force you get a really low action.
It's like
really nice, it's really
Balanced it's fast and
You know hi Eric is you know he's a he's a virtuoso [N] guy you know
But uh the pickup height on the other hand is really high for a Stratocaster
When you do this remember be careful wolf tones
There's this this magnetic phenomenon with these strings that sounds awful, so if you get those wolf tones just lower the pickup height
But because the pickup height is set where it's at the 1 16th of an inch between the string and the felt magnet pole
Man these are really it's a really loud guitar now
I think another thing you have to take into account when he sets up a guitar like this remember his
Electronics are way different than mine
This is standard Stratocaster with a little bit of mods on it a little wiring mods
but his has like
bass and middle boosts because he likes to take his
Stratocaster and make it sound like Gibson like he was in cream and all that so alright
So I want to thank you all for watching everybody so that's the Eric Clapton setup remember flat on the body
1 16th between the magnet pole and the bottom of the string and at the 17th fret you want 4 64ths on the bass side
3 64ths on the treble side.
Thank you
