Basic 12 bar blues.
We're going to start with our first finger on the second fret of our D string, and we're
going to play the [A] fourth and fifth string only to give us an A and an E.
We're going
to play it twice, then we're going to drop the third finger in on the fourth fret of
that D string, the [E] same string that your first finger is on.
We're going to do [B] that twice.
Again, your pick hand is only playing strings four and five.
[A] We're going to do [Gbm] two each [Abm] with the swing feel.
The straight feel would give us a very evenly [A] spaced eighth note.
We'll play it with [C] a swing feel or a triplet feel, also called a shuffle feel, which is
[A] going to give us a long, short, long, short, long.
Basically part of a triplet.
It's the first and third notes of a triplet.
If we went triplet, one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three.
This [Bb] will be the first part of our blues.
It's called the one chord.
In this case, we're playing in A blues.
[Gb] From here, we're going to drop down a set of strings.
Now we'll play the second fret of our third string.
We're going to [D] play the third and fourth string now, but we're going to play the exact same thing.
We're going to end up playing that for two measures.
We'll talk about how long we hold each [A] in just a moment.
Then we're going to come back to the A where we started.
The only other chord we need, [Bb] we need an E.
We're going to move [E] down a set of strings.
We're now on the second fret of our fifth string.
We're going to play five and six.
That will give us our E.
Those are all the chords.
Now we just need the order.
A blues [B] is made up of a one, four, five chord.
In this case, the key [A] is A.
We're calling A [E] our one.
We're going A, B, C, D is our four.
A, B, C, D, E is our [D] five.
For the D, that's when we move down in the open D string [B] rings.
For the E, we move the other way so we have that low E string ring.
We're going to play the [N] A chord for four measures.
One [Db] measure long with the riff we're just playing [A] is one, and two, and three, and four,
and that's one measure.
We need [Eb] to do that four times.
Then we'll move to the D for two measures, back to the A for two, E for one, D for one,
A for one, or two.
Sometimes at the end of [Ab] the blues, we'll have a turnaround in that very last [E] measure, in
that twelfth measure, in which case we're just going to play our low E, or we can play
the E [Abm] power chord.
Here's what our blues will sound like [A] all together.
Measure two, measure three, measure four, and now we're going to move down a set of
strings [D] to D.
Measure five, remember we're playing strings three and four now.
Here we go back to A for [A] measure seven, and eight.
Now for measure nine, we're going the other [E] way to the low E, strings five and six, only one measure.
[D] Back to D.
We're going to skip over the A, [A] A in the middle where we started, and our
E turnaround, we're [E] just going to go triplet, triplet, triplet.
We're back to the [A] top, measure one, two, three, four.
Measure two, two, three, four.
Measure three, two, three, four.
Measure four, and now we're getting ready.
We're going to move down a [D] set of strings to D for measure five, and measure six.
Now we're going back to A for [A] measure seven, and eight.
Now we're going to our low string for measure nine.
[E] We're going to skip over the A to [D] get to the D, and that A in the middle, [A] and again our
E turnaround [E] if we want,
